Re: WUs taking too long

While the MCM wu are still running slow on my I3-2320 system. So I've just quit running them. There are plenty of other projects to keep my systems busy.

Thanks for the help.

Jerry

PS: What I mean by slow is after 3 minutes of running they are they get to 1.231%.

Re: WUs taking too long

Frankly I have no idea what your concept of 'slow' is with 3 minutes at 1.231% which equates to 244 minutes or 4:04 hours. The project average is 4.23 hours for today with a week spread of 4.04 to 4.23 hours (decimal)

For sure, only after about 30 minutes and using <fraction_done_exact/> in a project app_config.xml, does a client show a reasonable remaining time to complete (TTC) for MCM1.

My concept of 'slow' is these wu normally take about 3 hours and 12 minutes. However, when they get to 71.666% they often don't change % for hours. But they must start again sometime because they do finish if I don't abort them.

Over and out.

Has anyone noticed MCM projects taking a much longer time to complete today?

Hello!

I'm a new poster and am not sure what the most effective way is to get a response (I started a new thread and then realized that I should probably post here instead). Below is what I essentially posted in my new thread:

I've been a WCG/BOINC member for nearly a year and recently earned a Silver Badge for Mapping Cancer Markers. Today, for the first time, I've noticed that my latest MCM unit is progressing at an extremely slow rate: has anyone else noticed this? I'd be grateful for any knowledgeable reply, because I am a bit concerned. My internet connection, computer (laptop running the latest OS X version) and network are functioning normally.

Re: WUs taking too long

I've not noticed any change in the time to complete a WU. I have an old machine doing it. A single core AMD Athlon 64 FX-57 (2.8 Ghz.) running XP 64-bit. It is consistent at around 5.5 hours.

I have several machines exclusively crunching MCM1. On a per machine basis they have been remarkably consistent lately (last couple weeks). They are all varying in length by less than 5%, per machine.
Cheers

Hi SKEPTICINFORMED,

Although I'm not currently crunching any MCM WU's (and thus, can't really comment on the length of the work units), what may be an idea, is to have a reboot of your machine(s) - as there may be a process on your machine that's grabbing some of your spare computer cycles, and thus not freeing them up for crunching.

Obviously, if you're using your computer and the program(s) that you're running are heavy users of the CPU (games/graphics/very large spreadsheets etc.), then that too can slow down the speed at which MCM WU's will be processed.

Thank you very much! I've restarted my computer and there's been no change, but they're almost done anyway, and they may be harder units.
