Mapping Cancer Markers project update, April 2016

Mapping Cancer Markers, which had been concentrating on lung cancer, now includes ovarian cancer work units. The research team has designed a study to identify the genes that are important in differentiating between the late and early stages of the disease.

Re: Mapping Cancer Markers project update, April 2016

Giving me a chance to fight ovarian cancer this way, by donating my computer power...it's very emotional, 'cause I lost a Grandma to ovarian cancer...& she practically raised me!

thank you WCG & MCM project team!

This also sounds as good news to me and my girl-friend, for she got 'acquainted' with ovarian disease more than a decade ago. She survived, thanks to the surgeons who removed a fist-thick tumour. She's also participating here at WCG, letting her computer 'do the BOINC' (as if it's a dance).

Re: Mapping Cancer Markers project update, April 2016

i'm happy to help here, and I can understand how markers could help early detection and identify high-risk people.

the last stated goal "predicting treatment response", how would that be done?

Re: Mapping Cancer Markers project update, April 2016

There's an ethical issue with all this... if only health insurance companies could get their hands on that 'predictive' information. Suddenly you could find you/family member being the cause of not being able to insure or find balloon premiums. One reason for collective insurance and collective bargaining, something that Obamacare may have already catered for... no cherry picking covering by the insurers. (Maybe worth a separate thread discussion as views on this between US stateside and other 'old continent' widely differ.)

Great news!!!

Here ("We estimate that the number of "experiments" we can perform within a single work unit will be much less, as each experiment will take longer to solve") a gpu client will be welcome!! :-P
