Download fails -186 [encompassing -119 MD5 and -120 RSA Key fails]
Had a -120 [the new disease at WCG], which strangely in the API export is actually identified as a -186 which according documentation is
ERR_RESULT_DOWNLOAD -186

BOINC will trigger this error when the work unit or application had a download error.

Here's the result log

We now have at least seen these -119 / -120 / -186 show up for FAH2 and HST1. Any other sciences and logs that can be linked to this expanding pest?

This was reported with a v7.14 version of application [now replaced by v7.21?], but anyway, time to put them all together and see if we have a pattern, where .tga image file... is the source again in the CDN with growing 'reputation'?

Observed twice in CEP2 23 May 2016 Beta units, reported here and here .

It's happening every second FAH2 coming down. Transient > Internet connection to server failing > Checksum failing, and now it befalls the .dms element, wherever it's coming from.

Scan exclusions for anything on the BOINC data-dir have been re-confirmed [happens to be W10+Avast, NO Windows Defender].

[ot]It's BTW curious how I'm getting batch 90-93 FAH2 ATM and my hunting tool archive says my machines were doing those back in March too... generation 27-30 now, generation 1-3 then.[/ot]

With file_xfer_debug logging, does it show failing file first downloads from CDN, then restarts download from WCG direct? That was my experience, so interested to know if it's universal.

Not got the oomph ATM to juggle log flags, still in cooling phase from coming down the mountain [est.liquid intake today about 3.5 liters enriched with potassium/magnesium], but a quick flip-flop in the profile does show a second attempt after the claim of a transient http error, then getting the MD5 fail.

Now the interesting bit: Upped the buffer by .25 days to get multiple FAH2, and saw that each fetch request was honored with assigning 2 [is that a per-fetch cap?], and always the 2nd failing to come down [the MD5 and always a .dms file], BUT, the final call was just assigning 1, and that did -not- give an issue.

Is this a lead?

The interesting bit went out the window... did the flip, upped the buffer a bit [HST1/FAH2/UGM1 profile], and got 1 FAH2 assigned, to fail in MD5 for the .dms file.

A subsequent 1 task request went successful for FAH2 [seemingly highest feeder priority in this mix].

Forgot to set the file_xfer flag to see where the bad transmission came from.

Before being able to do the flop, had 3 landing in the desktop buffer, makeups of previous tasks that did not do the full 10 trickles, -ls- type generation 8, 11, 12... slackers.

Just caught some HST1 beta repair jobs, mostly from No Reply (it pays to note exact deadline times in your calendar wink), but some with wingman errors including a couple with -120 (RSA key check failed for file). Pity I can't access their Event Logs and set log flags in retrospect.

Coincidence, don't know what is big about FAH2 and HST1 task files, but it so happens a fix was checked in for...
client: fix bug where concurrent async file operations use same temp …

…file

For situations where there are multiple big input or app_version files,
this could lead to MD5 errors and/or garbled file contents.


Yet again today after switching on FAH2 in the profile, every second work request a MD5 fail on the .dms part of the assigned task. This client still runs on 7.6.2 [quite early beta], so maybe time to upgrade it to the latest windows build and see if the issue persists. cool

Edit: To make sure, all my clients get occasional HST1 tasks, but these -don't-suffer the faith.
