Re: Download fails -186 [encompassing -119 MD5 and -120 RSA Key fails]

BOINC Agent Support is a good choice of forum, but I agree that a new thread would have been more appropriate, as your issue is different from that of this thread.

However, let's see if there's a quick solution to your issue. I downloaded a fresh copy of the Windows agent v7.2.47 and ran my MD5_and_SHA_Checksum_Utility 2.1 on it. It gives MD5: 343F7976D1288F7D842326C939286889, which is identical to the hash provided on the download page. Similarly for the Linux v7.2.42, MD5: 6CB2024F5DC2DFE771457DED4EF4A1C3 matches.

Can only suggest you try a different hash checker or that your downloads are struggling sad

In passing, note that you can also download later versions directly from the BOINC download site. Not sure hashes are available, though?

Re: Download fails -186 [encompassing -119 MD5 and -120 RSA Key fails]

@knreed: why is WCG using CDN?
I think 99% of traffic are WUs, so only direct communication between WCG and end user.
CDN should be good for distribution of same content, like one-time download of application.
thanks for explanation

The files sent out via the CDN are only:

1) The application version files
2) The slideshow image files
3) Files within workunits that are shared among many tasks

In other words, we only use the CDN for those files that are downloaded many times.

It is also worth noting that the application version files and the slideshow files are the items that can spike our download bandwidth to 5-10 times normal when a new version or (application) is released. Having those out on distributed infrastructure makes it easier to handle those spikes.

Re: Download fails -186 [encompassing -119 MD5 and -120 RSA Key fails]

Thanks for the reply, @tonyh205. I think I actually might be in the wrong part of the forum, and I apologize if I am. But I'm talking about downloading the "World Community Grid software" here:
https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/ms/viewDownloadAgain.do

There are radio buttons for Windows/Linux/Mac/Android, which are pre-selected based on your OS. When you download any of these files, and check the MD5 hash on the downloaded file, it doesn't match the hash provided on that page.

So you when you say "the file is rejected by your client software", I think we're talking about different things. I'm talking about the client software itself.

Again - apologies if I'm in the wrong part of the forum.

I just tested downloading them myself, and the md5sum of the files downloaded exactly matched the md5sum reported on the website.

Also - we do not distribute these via the CDN. These downloads come straight from our website.

Re: Download fails -186 [encompassing -119 MD5 and -120 RSA Key fails]

Interesting. I'm on Windows and using command prompt, and checking by running:

certutil -hashfile wcg_boinc_7.2.47_windows_intelx86.exe MD5

I just downloaded it again, and the MD5 *does* now match.

When I first downloaded it, the MD5 matched. I then downloaded it on other machines, and got a different MD5 hash for these other machines. (This happened for Linux as well. Ultimately, I used apt-get for Linux.)

I still have some of these other downloads. All of these downloads "completed", and *all* of these downloads were each 8,002kb. However, the downloads that do not match the MD5 do not have the World Community Grid icon. Instead they have the standard program icon.

Perhaps my downloads were indeed struggling for some reason. Not sure. Anyway, thanks all for the help!

Re: Download fails -186 [encompassing -119 MD5 and -120 RSA Key fails]

I should add that I was on a different network when I downloaded the corrupt files. I will investigate. I will also start a new thread if I have any more to offer the forum. Thanks.

I just received 2 of these errors. One yesterday and one today. Never received them before. Have downloaded about 200 WUs in the past two days and only got this error twice.

Re: Download fails -186 [encompassing -119 MD5 and -120 RSA Key fails]

I took a look at the database and we aren't seeing anything that would suggest a widespread issue. The workunit that you referenced has 2 copies in progress that have been out for 24 hours now.

At this moment, I'm going to assume that the issue was one of those transient issues that sometimes happens on the internet. We will monitor for signs that something else is going on, but at this time we don't see any signs of a bigger issue.

Thank you for reporting so that we could take a look.

Re: Download fails -186 [encompassing -119 MD5 and -120 RSA Key fails]

One of my machines just suffered this while trying to download its first MIP1 tasks!

Result Name: MIP1_ 00000022_ 0090_ 0--
<core_client_version>7.6.22</core_client_version>

app_version download error: couldn't get input files:

<file_name>wcgrid_mip1_rosetta_7.11_windows_intelx86</file_name>
<error_code>-120 (RSA key check failed for file)</error_code>
</file_xfer_error>

I do have http_debug turned on, but the output is voluminous! Below are the lines containing the filename and some selected additional lines. Times are UTC+1. The bold lines are those that stand out to me as possibly relevant to the error. I think they show that only a small part of the (large) file was initially downloaded, followed by a second download of the remaining part. I'm not familiar with the Partial Content download protocol, but I notice that the initial transfer says "transfer closed with 49015616 bytes remaining to read", whereas the second transfer seems to ask for "Content-Length: 49020616". Does this warrant investigation? I've saved a copy of stdoutdae.txt and it's available if required.
