As I understand ARE, in order to be able to exchange info between WUs running on different members' machines, the WUs would need to be running concurrently.
That's incorrect; wflynny already explained that the info is only exchanged after WUs are completed. The results of the info exchanges are then used to calculate the parameters used by a newly created batch of WUs,

Somewhere had picked up the highest batch would be 1318, but after the flashback to the (newly build) 800-899 set, now see 2191 in queue, 'official' Research percent sitting at 53%.

Sleuthing, found the new site https://fightaidsathome2.cst.temple.edu/status.html indicating 1318 as top batch.
