Yesterday I achieved 1 Billion points!! I'm very happy and proud!
----------------------------------------EDIT: Every time I try to write the rest of my question, I am told by the web server that I am forbidden. What gives? I am considering buying a few Lenovo M910 Tiny desktops (I mainly crunch for Cancer projects): for $519 (I get a discount) which includes i7-7500T, 4GB RAM, and dedicated GPU. What I especially like is they are super tiny and use very little power. If there is some other, better machine, I'd love to hear about it. ![]() [Edit 4 times, last edit by ericinboston at Oct 10, 2017 3:40:03 PM] |

Doubt it at that price, quad core i5 at 3.3 GHz is far from shabby. If you can get them minus windows (presuming they have it of course) and use Ubuntu they’ll be cheaper and produce more, potential winner methinks.
----------------------------------------Oh and big gratz on the billion, that’s some achievement [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 10, 2017 4:06:54 PM] |

Actually, my mistake, the M710 Tiny. Also, the price difference between the i5-7500T 3.3Ghz and the i7 is ~$150 more...sure, I'd love to save that money but any real world comparison with WCG? For example, instead of returning 60 results a day with the i7, does the i5 only return 50? That i5 only has 4 threads while the i7 has 8 threads so my gut says the i5 will return about 1/2 the WUs each day.
----------------------------------------Configuring that i5 model yields me $404.42 while the i7 is $513.92. I could install Ubuntu (I never got into Linux) but it would have to be a 25% gain or more for me to both ripping out Windows10 (some day I would just give the pcs away to non-Linux folks). ![]() |

WUProp has data for HT enabled or disabled CPUs. Its an average of anyone using WUProp and the particular CPU so you can't check for any OCs involved. But there might be some that are not easily OC'd like Xeons or Mobile CPUs. Win vs Linux is also available.

If it comes with Windoz, you can easily dual-boot it with Ubuntu.

I don’t know how many of the computers you are planning on buying (and hence your budget), but I went down the route of buying Xeon V4 engineering samples and am very very happy with the result. You get a huge amount of points although the entry price is a bit steep. I think you get a lot of bang for your buck too.
Here is my computer, running linux as it is a dedicated cruncher. https://boincstats.com/en/stats/15/host/detail/3622808 I went with Linux mint and it was super easy to install and get BOINC running. Honestly, from scratch to up and running, no more than 45 minutes to install the software. I run without a videocard but have installed teamviewer and login from my windows box to control anything if I need to. It has had rock solid reliability ever since I built it and I was super super happy. The specs are 2 x Xeon 2698V4 at $700 each on ebay (at the time) A supermicro ATX dual socket board for $305 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NYDTVFU/...o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 16GB of DDR4 ECC ram secondhand from Ebay. Probably $100 Cooling soloutions – Budget $50-$100 PSU – Corsair HX 850i - $160 but that may have been overkill. Then a small HDD or SSD and a case and you are good to go. So all in all, probably about $2200. |

personally if you are going for small and handy why not get usb computers ?

yes thanks for the link,
----------------------------------------Benchmark results: Number of CPUs: 8 2376 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU 6152 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU Tot 19W only on cpu, but I'm using the laptop for internet stuff and works also. How is good an Atom cpu on usb stick at this point? (wattages apart) Thanks and Best Regards [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 6, 2017 9:12:17 AM] |
