I am having a hard time trying to figure out exactly what you are dumping on: Win 10 or WCG ? or both ? The easy answer for the Win 10 woes is Linux. It doesn't even take but about a few minutes to install and set up for crunching. The other alternative is get an old copy of Win 7 and use that. Yeah, it is outdated, but if you only use it for crunching the chances you'll have any problems are small. Even after reading your post a couple of times I am still at sea about what at WCG is bugging you. Cheers Thanks Sgt Joe. Was gonna try Linux Cinnamon. How is the learning curve for that? |

I have used Linux MInt Mate. Cinnamon is supposed to be pretty good from what I here, although I have not used it. I can do just about everything I can do on Windows. Microsoft Officel works on Windows but not on Linux as far as I know, but Libre Office works just fine on Linux although with some very minor exceptions. My advice is to just install some Linux variant with a GUI (Ubuntu, Mint, etc) and poke around in it for a bit. And don't be afraid to ask questions, there are plenty of people out there who will provide help.
----------------------------------------Good luck. Cheers
Sgt. Joe

Ubuntu version of Linux has a very straightforward GUI interface and tons of support examples on the internet. Easy to install, assuming you know how to create a bootable USB drive (lot's of how to's on the internet for this, too).

I too would like to know the answer on how to get around the missing Team Captain problem.
----------------------------------------No co-captains appointed apparently. Original team creator and team captain missing from BOINC projects since 2018. I'd like to take over as Team Captain, but there is no avenue apparently with this project forum software to do so. Help! Anyone? ![]() A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Keith Myers - Yes I have the same situation. Our founder passed away more than a year ago and I would like to be Captain, so we can participate in Team Challenges, etc.
I found a link that alowed me to submit a request to replace the Captain and the result said it would be reviewed witjhin 60 days. I agree there should be one or more Captains, or a Captain and one or more Co-Captains who would become Captain if the Captain becomes inactive. |

I'd like to know how to view the active team roster list.
----------------------------------------Also how to prune inactive crunchers from the team list. I can't find any of those features on the Team page, just recent contributions and the ability to enroll the team into Challenges. ![]() A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

I agree, there should be the standard BOINC feature for appointing co-captains for teams.

Someone changed the name of our team from its years old name to something else and I cant contact the captain, not do I know if there is a captain. At the moment there seams to be impossible to ask for change of captain as that option is not availble.
----------------------------------------Any ideas? ![]() ![]() |

As always, if you are on a team and the team captain is inactive, use the Contact Us page to let us know and we will work with you on the issue. I have now contacted WCG, thanks for the suggestion! ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by ccandido at Nov 14, 2022 8:29:37 PM] |
