Hi!
Haven't been currently running wcg but have inherited a Lenovo think center pc--10115, one of those tiny "desktop" machines. So, I'm thinking about setting it up to be a dedicated computer for just the wcg. And, setting it up so I can load the projects and just let it run. No monitor, mouse, nor keyboard after I get it up and running. It currently has win 8.1 on it, I think, but I could also wipe it and install Linux. I'm not thinking to get the best or quickest results ever but to just have a machine working away with out me needing to do much else than pay my power bill. :) Any thoughts on the best way to approach this, folks? The machine will probably be hardwired to my router and I will definitely be clearing out all the software other than an OS and whatever minimal "stuff" wcg needs. Thanks! Rob |

If you are going to run it on linux, why not install Linux on a flash drive (16gb or greater) and leave the hard drive disconnected. It will lower you electric bil and generate less heat internally. Besides, then you don't have to wipe 8.1, you may find a use for it later.

Personally i would get rid of the games on the OS, possibly see if there is the update to windows 10 (free) and go with the light version of windows 10, Also install Boinc and HPC Pack

Linux is your best option, it's leaner and depending on the project you are running will offer up some to an enormous boost in performance. The latest version of ubuntu is probably going to suit you if you've always been a Windows user, it's GUI gets better and better all the time, it's making it much more user friendly to someone who hasn't used Linux before - and it's free.
If you want to retain Windows on it you can choose to install ubuntu alongside windows and simply boot into whichever OS you want at that time. If you decide to Linux and run into issues just shout up here, always happy to help. |

Linux Mint is/was a good OS as well. I haven't used it in a while, probably version 17 was the last chance I got to sit down and use extensively. But it also had that windows feel to it.
