ARP are readily available, but not necessarily immediately. Maybe in a few minutes. sorry that I disagree - since I could spare some time, I tried to download ARP tasks by manually pushing the "update" button in BOINC every 3-4 minutes, over a time span of almost 3 hours. without success :-( [Edit 1 times, last edit by erich56 at Aug 8, 2021 2:09:24 PM] |

I have heard of up to an hour but 3 hours is excessive. It is possible that you have just been unlucky enough to have miss the release of batches. What are your profile settings? I note that you don't have an ARP badge. Is this the first time you have tried to download ARP? Is your profile set to receive ARP? How large a cache do you have? What messages do you get when you update? Please copy your event log for an attempted update and post here. ARP is different from any other projects in that each unit relates to a specific patch of Sub-Saharan Africa and to 2 days of weather. They can't produce the next 2 day generation until the previous one has been validated for that patch. The next generation is produced about 10 minutes after the previous one is validated. We are returning about 18,000 results per day and there can only be 71,218 available at any one time, so 4 days supply on crunchers machines. However, some hold larger caches unnecessarily, slowing down the process. Mike |

hello Mike,
so far, this PC hast processed 2 or 3 ARP WUs within the past days. Only a few days ago I set my profile to download ARP. I set the cache to 2 days, and by an app_config.xml I set to process 3 tasks simultaneously (on a 4-core processor). For all other sub-projects, this procedure has worked well over all the years. For projects other than WCG as well. The message I get when trying to update is as follows: 08.08.2021 16:35:45 | World Community Grid | No tasks sent 08.08.2021 16:35:45 | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Africa Rainfall Project 08.08.2021 16:35:45 | World Community Grid | Für die gewählten Anwendungen ist keine Arbeit verfügbar. 08.08.2021 16:35:45 | World Community Grid | Tasks for NVIDIA GPU are available, but your preferences are set to not accept them 08.08.2021 16:35:45 | World Community Grid | Tasks for AMD/ATI GPU are available, but your preferences are set to not accept them 08.08.2021 16:35:45 | World Community Grid | Tasks for Intel GPU are available, but your preferences are set to not accept them 08.08.2021 16:35:45 | World Community Grid | Project requested delay of 121 seconds |

At the bottom of the profile page for there is a section called "Project Limits". The limit for African Rainfall Project is set to the default value of 1. If you change that to a larger limit you will be able to get more than 1 job at a time.

Leave your cache at 3, but change app_config.xml to 2. ARP is very intensive at checkpoints. The recommendation is for a maximum of half total threads. OPN & MCM can be on the other threads at the same time. As you are a newbie to ARP, you should also be aware of the fact that these checkpoints occur every 12.5% and if you shut down your machine or reboot, you will lose all crunching since the last checkpoint, which might be several hours. This does not happen if you 'sleep' or 'hibernate'. Mike |

Thanks Kevin,
----------------------------------------Good signs that we are working down the lagging work units: Generation 37 and 38 complete. Added 1 new generation. 8/6/21 data: Gen 37 to 78 had 1332 completed in the last day. 8/10/21 data: Gen 39 to 79 had 1779 completed in the last day. ![]() |

Maybe for the next month's update, we can push a notification to ARP contributors to set their queues to a quarter of the day minimum plus a quarter of the day maximum?
We can improve upon the four day pace without adding additional processing power. |
