Crunching on charger

Hi. I have one problem with crunching when the phone is on charger. When I go to sleep, I put my phone on charger and expect that my phone will crunch projects through the night.

When I wake up my phone is cold on the back and I see that same projects are there as they were when I put the phone on charger. This is very frustrating because I lose almost 8 hours every night, there is no difference that I switch off my phone 🙄, I tried everything in settings but nothing helps.

This is not the problem through day when I use a phone on charger but through the night when I am sleeping and not using the phone. Obviously Boinc when the phone is not in use run out of the memory and stop to crunch. This happens also if my phone is not on charger and I am not using it for example 15-20 minutes.

What can I do to prevent this behaviour, has anybody the same problem? Thank you very much.

Re: Crunching on charger

Rather than guessing what your settings are now, please post them, INCLUDING those that display when 'Show advanced preferences and controls' is ticked.

E,g, Power Sources for Computing: Wall Socket, USB connection, Wireless Charger
Max Battery Temperature: 40C
Used CPU cores: 3
etc
etc
Ram Limit: 50%

Re: Crunching on charger

I have Pocophone F1. Settings are: max battery temp: 40°C, using 4 cores of 8, RAM and CPU limit set to 100 %, max storage 80 %, Power sources for computation all ticked (running on battery and when USB connected), min. battery level for computation is set to 20%, pause at CPU usage above set to 0. Do you think that I need to change any of settings to prevent problem thst I describe? Thank you.

Re: Crunching on charger

Makes no sense unless the device is doing this itself, something like "Nobody touched me, so switch everything down."

Possibly the BOINC event log reveals something. If the application was unloaded the bottom entry would be "Starting Boinc version xyz..." with a timestamp close to when you picked it up.

Obviously, device is doing it itself as you said. If you don't touch it for some time, like 15 minutes, it stop to crunch and mobile is cold from the back, when I start app again, mobile starts to heat and I see percentages of the projects same as earlier. Would you change any of settings? Event log nothing weird shows at the moment but I am using mobile now.

Re: Crunching on charger

Theres nothing in the boinc client settings, but when i go on my device into the developer screens theres a whole slew of settings allowing to influence cpu, power, screen behavior.

Your 15 minutes reminded me of a setting only existing on the website device profile where there is one that allows boinc to stop crunching when the device is not being used like 15 or 20 minutes. Android Boinc should not read those website settings but it would not harm to set it to 0 minutes which means never stop when idle. Do a project update in boinc and sit back to see if crunching continues when put down.

Beyond that out of ideas.

Re: Crunching on charger

The Android BOINC client does not seem to update the %age (i.e; I start charging at 27%, come back at 52% and the client claims im only at 27%, and in my case sometimes starts crunching anyway and sometimes does not). This is likely why; if your phone is on a wooden counter, for example, id say disable the minimum %age needed to start running

Re: Crunching on charger

I go to my device profile, custom settings and that option you mentioned is already set to 0.0. Half hours ago I woke up and phone was cold again, went to event log and Boinc started to run at the moment I opened Boinc app. I am sure that problem is with some settings on my mobile and that I need to go on developer option to change something but I don't know what. I don't have enabled power save mode or something like that. Obviously my phone when it is idle for 15-20 minutes is nit crunching anymore, on charger or when it is on battery.

Re: Crunching on charger

Thanks, I put this option on 0 but obviously it is a problem with mobile and some advanced settings in developer option that I need to change. In my device profile all is set like it should be.

Re: Crunching on charger

Some smartphones aggressively turn off apps in background.

Do you have MIUI 11? Try this:
Settings > Battery & performance > App battery saver > BOINC > No restrictions
