I recently uninstalled BOINC from my laptop running Windows 10 and now the <Control Panel><Mouse Properties> option "Disable internal pointing device when USB pointing device is attached" does not work properly. With the option selected the mouse pad is disabled and the USB mouse works fine, but once the USB device is removed the mouse disappears. When the option is not selected, everything works as expected, but I then have great problems when typing as I often unintentionally hit the mouse pad.
How do I fix this?? |

hmmm, mouse/joystick/keyboard devices are listened to by BOINC to check if the user is at the computer and then pauses computing by default. Think though that BOINC was only listening, not doing anything to the device, at least cannot see anything in the quick on google.
----------------------------------------Is their not a control panel with which you can tune your mouse pad? I've not used one in years, but seem to remember you can tune what actions are taken when touching corners and edged of the pad. Google offered this for old Windows 7, but suppose same applies to W10. https://smallbusiness.chron.com/change-sensit...hpad-windows-7-28440.html edit: spellcheck [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 3, 2020 8:11:38 AM] |

Yes I have checked and double checked mouse settings within control panel and everything works fine except the cursor disappears if the mouse is disconnected when the <disable internal pointing device.....> is selected.
I have also now noticed that my laptop no longer goes goes to sleep when not in use . |

If BOINC has been uninstalled nothing with the BOINC name should be running, but check in task manager if "BOINC system tray for windows" is still showing.
----------------------------------------Depending on 32 or 64 bit, check if the C:\Program Files\BOINC and or C:\Program Files(x86)\BOINC folder is empty, and if not empty and delete the folder. Also if there's still a C:\ProgramData\BOINC, empty it and delete folder. When done boot your device. Also check if the screen screensaver applet still lists a BOINC ss as option. It shouldn't. Beyond that, no idea why your mouse troubles would relate to an uninstalled BOINC. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 9, 2020 7:08:46 AM] |

Followed your suggestions, found and deleted quite a lot of files, task manager was not showing "BOINC system tray for windows" and no BOINC ss option. I guess I will need to look elsewhere, it is quite likely that the problem was present for some time before I noticed it as I normally use my laptop at my desk with the mouse attached.
----------------------------------------Have you any thoughts on the computer not going to sleep in accordance with the power option setting? (this again could have been going on for some time as I only recently disabled the wake up timers) Thanks for you help [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 9, 2020 12:59:31 PM] |

You could have an intermittent mouse/usb port causing the laptop to think there's someone using the device. Unplug and observe.
