Re: Smash Childhood Cancer Beta Test - Sept 8 2020 [ Issues Thread ]

What does "Try Validation" button do?
I get it from the Result page that shows list of hosts assigned for that task...

Exactly that. Sometimes a validation gets missed when quorum is complete. It will eventually get caught and passed through the checking process, this allows manually speeding this up. Given that the validator (a science specific verification routine) for this new test has not been activated yet, the function will do nothing.

Pls check your validators for Beta Test WUs. Several my WUs waiting in queue. "Try Validation" is not helping with progress.

Please be patient and stop complaining.
It is not unusual that the validation process for Beta takes longer than on released projects.
Cheers,
Yves

Well, as I haven't received any further Beta WU's, I'm assuming that they've all now been sent out - thus, once they've come back, I'm sure that the WCG techs will switch the Beta Validator on in order for them to have a look at what's been returned.

From my rough calculations, assuming that all those that I've returned and are currently in PV, I should get my Ruby badge from that nice steady stream biggrin

Good luck.
You may have to wait a day or so.
This maintenance is about to start.

Re: Smash Childhood Cancer Beta Test - Sept 8 2020 [ Issues Thread ]

SNURK,

I can see this, however, the client data is put inside of a blob on a database field which means I would need to do a sub string grep inside an sql statement to capture this data and correlate it and do that against thousands of rows after eliminating millions of rows based on the appid. This query would be ugly to say the least :)
...
Thanks,
-Uplinger

O yes, blobs in a database. It's easy on the storing side but a pain on the retrieving side. I imagine the query would be a real beauty! (also performance wise)
Thanks for the insight though. smile

Yup, not ver efficient when trying to sift through the data unfortunately, thus asking for versions, I was trying to see if I could pin point the version from BOINC that would allow for multiple application url downloads. I had thought that version 7.2.x had this capabilities, but it would appear that for the application downloads, this may not have been implemented until after 7.8. I tried to look through the change logs for BOINC to see if I could see where this was, but I did not. If I had more time, I would dig into the BOINC source code to figure it out, but fixing the root cause of the files not existing makes that less important. Anyways...probably more information than is needed in my thought process. Thanks for the help on the beta!

Please note: the validators for scc1 beta test will not be on for atleast another 24+ hours until the planned maintenance is over. As others have mentioned, we like to run the validators after catching a backlog of results, this allows us to catch any issues with it and correct quickly before validation gets out of hand if there are errors.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Not at all. Insight to what goes on behind the scenes and in your thought process is always interesting. Keep up the good work.

Today I have noticed singletons being sent out only for another to go out a few hours later. Is this intentional?

The validator needs sorting.
A lot of mine have both WUs in Pending Validator.
