Re: WCG on BOINC windows client

I would be grateful if someone could let us know if it is OK to continue using the Windows version of BOINC for WCG. (Obviously we all don't want to cause any unnecessary problems.)

Yes - please use the windows version of BOINC for WCG. We made it available becuase it is ready to be used.

Re: WCG on BOINC windows client

Kevin,

Thanks - It looks like I will wait until I upgrade to Boinc v. 5.2.7.

However, I did look at the instructions and they seem to be written using command lines.

Will I not be able to go to the BOINC Manager and click on "attach to new project" ?

Probably it will be best to see what v. 5.2.7 askes me to do when I want to attach a project.

thanks again,
Richard

Yes you can use the BOINC manager. The instructions were written with the anticipation that most users would be installing it on servers remotely. I have a to-do to add more information about the BOINC manager to the Help section of the website and we might re-do the installation directions.

If you want to use the BOINC Windows app of WCG, just sign up using the Linux download, it is really now a BOINC sign-up. It will give you an account key and URL to use in BOINC 4.x. I am using 5.2.5 and it prompted for an account key and URL instead of email address and password. I had tried attaching before I register on WCG site, but my BOINC 5.2.5 was requiring an account key. It appears WCG is using 4.x server software for accounts.

Up and crunching WCG cool

I also received an email with account key and URL.

Re: WCG on BOINC windows client

Brian and others,

I have my Account Key.

Note: still using Boinc 4.45.

Brian seems to be saying I can attach with 4/45.
Brian, am I reading your message correctly. I see you are running 5.2.5.

I attached using URL: www.worldcommunitygrid.org
and my Account Key.

I get this:

11/17/2005 10:24:47|http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/|Sending scheduler request to https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/wcg_cgi/fcgi
11/17/2005 10:24:47|http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/|Requesting 129600 seconds of work, returning 0 results

What is error -113?

Re: WCG on BOINC windows client

Error -113 is what you get if you try to connect with a version earlier than 5.2.4 [or is that 5.2.2]. There is an article in the Wiki about -113, which shows up for many incompatibilities.

Sorry I am not more specific. I am just starting to learn this.

Re: WCG on BOINC windows client

Thanks about the note about error -113.
This expains the problem I'm having with WCG and nFluids.

So you have solved two problems with your note.
Therefore, both will be corrected when I upgrade to Boinc 5.2.7.

I should have thought to look in the Wiki.
