Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - Feb 18 2021 [Issues Thread]

OK, all clear for my computer with an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790K CPU, one NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 GPU, and an integrated INTEL Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 GPU. (Windows 8.1)

Both GPU's running these Beta tasks without any problems simultaneously.

As said before though, my Laptops, one with an NVIDIA GeForce 315M (Windows 7), and one with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M (Windows 8.1), is a no go. They both error out these tasks when they reset the drivers, and of course leave dump files in Windows\LiveKernelReports. So, those two Laptops are only for CPU crunching.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - Feb 18 2021 [Issues Thread]

@Threadripper,

Can you double check to make sure you have the latest graphics drivers from your GPU provider?

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Hi Uplinger,
Oh, I shall check and install newer drivers if available on the affected machines. Those GPUs that had issues were pretty old ones and perhaps they do not have OpenCL 1.2 support.

I now see that one PC that has a Geforece 210 (OpenCL 1.1 support) has crunched some WUs. None errored out immediately at least (Pending validation).

Looks like it worked well on GeForce RTX 3060 Ti with Linux.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - Feb 18 2021 [Issues Thread]

It seems so far though, that if I set both Nvidia and Intel to YES, I'll only get tasks for Nvidia. To get tasks for Intel, I have to set Nvidia to NO.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - Feb 18 2021 [Issues Thread]

On my old laptop with a Radeon 7470M, I had "Suspend GPU" set in BOINC Manager, but it still downloaded wcgrid_beta29_autodockgpu_7.21_windows_x86_64__opencl_ati_102 and it left the task unstarted. I had thought this GPU didn't support OpenCL 1.2 and left it suspended, but TechPowerUp says it does.

So I set it to "Use GPU always" and now it's running the task. But I would expect it to not download any GPU tasks when I have the manager set to suspend the GPU.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - Feb 18 2021 [Issues Thread]

All of the first 10 batches have been distributed. I am currently building some more for additional tests. But those will more than likely be just the larger work units as that would be what we run going forward.

Today I'll be capturing the various details of the results and machines that ran them to get a better picture of what is happening and behaving.

As for the OpenCL 1.0 cards getting work. I will need to do additional testing on the backend scheduler to see why that is happening. The cards should not have gotten anything but version 1.2. I will let you know what I find out on that, but it could be a long discovery for a solution there.

As always, thank you for your support and help with this Beta!

Thanks,
-Uplinger
