Re: Work unit availability

I have been running OPN cpu version for a little over a year now. I added an nVidia Quadro RTX 4000 to the box and hopefully I have it configured right. nvidia-smi shows the GPU and everything appears OK on the box. The start-up logs for the boinc-client correctly identify the GPU. When updating in boiunctui the requests for tasks ask for both CPU and NVIDIA GPU. So I think I am ok there. The computer runs Ubuntu 20.04.2. I am using this computer headless as it is a co-located box.

For 48 hours I have not received any GPU tasks I get plenty of CPU. Is the well dry for nVidia GPUs?

If so, is there a time frame where I might expect some?

It certainly sounds like you're set up right, so I'm afraid all you can do now is wait.
As far as I understand it, the work units are added on an 'occasional' basis, I think roughly every 30 minutes, but they are almost immediately scooped up - so it's basically the luck of the draw if you get any or not. Also, with an RTX4000, any you do get will be processed in a couple of minutes each, I think :-)
Now the researchers have seen the awesome amount of power WCG GPUs can provide, we all live in hope that one day a more 'constant' supply of GPU work units will be available!

Re: Work unit availability

Thanks for the info. I guess I jumped the gun a little bit. I can have the dedicated server people remove the GPU.

Any timeframe for a large-scale rollout of GPU work units?

No time frame yet afaik. They will continue to push out ~1700WUs every 30mins for now.

Re: Work unit availability

The kitties are back to clawing at the server for any GPU kibbles they can find, their bowl is empty right now.
They know some more will come.

Re: Work unit availability

Ok thanks. I think I'll switch over to folding@home or something to make use of this GPU until I can have it removed.

Re: Work unit availability

The kitties are happy this morning. The server has been kind and has filled their kibble bowl quite generously lately.

Re: Work unit availability

I get what I need, but only when I run my ancient GTX660M. Any other faster GPU is mostly idle.
Therefore I do not run any other computer than the old Laptop with a GTX660M GPU.

My old intel laptops always have a queue :-D well they dont process many WUs in a day anyways.
