Re: GPU Work Units - Post Your Tech Support Questions Here

Not sure if this is the right place for my query but here goes.

I am blessed with two MAC computers both of which have AMD and INTEL GPUs. All GPU work units crunch to completion but the AMD WUs and INTEL WUs behave very differently.
The AMD WUs are almost transparent to the non WCG operation of my MACs and I really do not detect any significant reduction in graphics performance. The INTEL WUs on the other hand seem to throttle all graphics and, despite having INTEL i9 CPUs (crunching 16 WUs simultaneously) changing pages on my browser has become a joke.

Is there any way to specify AMD GPU WUs and ignore INTEL GPU WUs or do I have to have both together or none at all?

Rod, do you perhaps mean the following? From the Help pages:
GPU processing is different than CPU processing on World Community Grid. Specifically, GPUs don't have operating system capabilities that allow us to ensure that running work units doesn't interfere with your use of your computer. Many GPUs can run World Community Grid without any interference; however, some will cause your computer to be slow in responding to you. GPU usage for World Community Grid is therefore opt-in only; by default, World Community Grid will not use GPUs. You can opt in through the Device Profiles page - please refer to "How do I configure my settings so that World Community Grid uses my device's GPU?" for details.

How do I configure my settings so that World Community Grid uses my device's GPU?
— Go to Device Profiles and select the relevant profile. (If you're not sure which profile relates to the device on which you want to run GPU work, refer to your Device Manager list).
— Ensure that the selected device profile is a Custom Profile.
— Scroll through the Advanced Options to the 'Graphics Card Usage' section.
— In order to get GPU work, select "Yes" for the type of GPU card (AMD/ATI, Intel or NVIDIA) you wish World Community Grid to use. You can set all three types (AMD/ATI, Intel, NVIDIA) as "Yes" if you do not know what card you have or wish to run GPU work on all cards available in a computer.

This should answer your question.

Adri

Thanks Adri, I believe that should do the trick. Trying out now.

Got a grand total of one OPNG WU which has completed AND been validated.

Some progress perhaps.

Pretty good amount of OPN1 tasks since the restart of WCG after the last outage. But, where are the OPNG tasks? Not many at all coming this way. Only 41 OPNG's since April 3.

Re: GPU Work Units - Post Your Tech Support Questions Here

Just got a rare batch of OPNG tasks overnight

However, they all failed with "error" status.

They were previously all working ok with my setup
on Radeon RX590 series.

Here is error log:

Re: GPU Work Units - Post Your Tech Support Questions Here

recently, we all received a message from WCG, saying:

World Community Grid complete restart
World Community Grid finished the alpha testing, and is restarting on April 13.

it worked well for almost two weeks, but since yesterday, there is the well known "transient error" when trying to upload finished tasks. Why so?

and the bad thing is: as long as the upload queue in BOINC is stale, no new tasks can be downloaded sad
