Re: 2022-08-08 update (new workunits, FAQ thread soon)

I would like a more informed date of WCG's start.

Re: 2022-08-08 update (new workunits, FAQ thread soon)

I have assumed limited and volunteer resources have picked up a project they have not seen before. Even experienced personal take time to learn. Establishing a fully functioning date in this situation is impossible or arbitrary.

I personally am impressed and am patient. The developers are doing a good job under the circumstances.

I'll be glad when things are fully working, but short runs suit this heatwave :)

With cooler weather approaching, running computers help keep the house warm. . .

Me too. And if I were running the project, I would be hoping for some... er... natural wastage in the volunteer base. smile

It's nice to see the progress on the webpage and test WUs. I'll return to WGC once the WUs flow again. Keep it up.

Boon-X

They are flowing for a few minutes each day from 12:28 GMT (UTC) which is 14:28 CET.

Thanks.

This used to be my main project, with lots of work done, and since this transition, I have not seen anything.

Re: 2022-08-08 update (new workunits, FAQ thread soon)

why do people post negative hopeless thoughts or I'm leaving threats?? I'm sorry you are feeling down about the project. We all want it back up. We are all a bit sad it isn't up yet. Threats won't change that.

I'm personally hopefully that the only obvious problem is a network issue. Network issues are solvable. I was much more worried about the database, and sending and validating issues, but all that seems to be working. I feel like they are close. I feel like they think they are close (they brought the website back up).

I posted because 1) I can, 2) I have been crunching since 2005, 3) regular dedicated crunchers are clearly running out of patience, 4) I didn't threaten anyone or anything, nor did I threaten to leave, 5) I have 1 Windows machine out of 3 Win machines that never got a test WU, and none of my Androids have had a 'test' WU either, and no GPU WUs to my knowledge have been 'tested' either. So you are entitled to your opinion but maybe next time do not belittle anyone. I want this to succeed just as much as you do. But IBM clearly did not give them much help in the transition.

Re: 2022-08-08 update (new workunits, FAQ thread soon)

I'm running into the download pending forever situation. I will get 30-40 tasks process them and when they are almost done i get another 30 but they never download. they stay in download pending with backoff values of hours. I have tasks that have been in that status for 18 hours with no end in site. I thought I saw a comment about some magic trick to kick start this so they do download but can't find it now. Any ideas? I haven't been on here as long as some but I built the latest machine just for this project and it spends more time powered down as it takes too much power and ac to keep the office cool if it doing nothing.

Thanks for the tip on retry I hadn't ever had to use that before. I started getting more open on Saturday and hit retry eventually the open did download. For most of Saturday I had the processor running 80% of 128 cores, with others downloading to fill my ready to execute queue so that was nice it was almost running like old to times. Finally ran out of tasks last evening and I guess Sunday the servers are resting.

In BOINC Manager, Advanced View, go to the "Transfers" tab, select one or more files and click "Retry Now".
I found I had to try this multiple times to download 8 MCM and 8 ARP.
Cheers,
Mark
