New projects announcement ETA?

Hi

About a year ago you announced that "With the transfer, we also aim to expand the volunteer experience, to launch new projects in a variety of disease areas, and to increase the number of software programs that can run on the World Community Grid." i was wondering if we have any additional information about these new projects brought up last September? I am curious what additional projects have been planned in the last year and how close they are to launch.

Thank you
Robo

I am going to go out on a limb here and say they might want to get all of their existing ducks in a row before trying to start anything new. I would enjoy seeing new projects, but first things first.
Cheers

The announcement mentioned a Parkinson disease project. But as Sgt. Joe said, the transition must be finalized first.

Might be time to add a new project as only one project is running at the moment. No timeline for when some of the other projects will be ready to send WUs again. Bad timing to have all the projects go on hiatus or have issues all at once.

Basic cutting edge research is hard. If it was easy, anybody could do it. It is hard because it is research of areas unexplored. It also requires bright, educated, driven, and passionate people who have succeeded in obtaining the required funding.
I would love to see some new projects which could help solve some of the world's most pressing problems, whether they are societal, environmental, medical, psychological, etc.
In the meantime, the resources go to cancer.
Cheers

Re: New projects announcement ETA?

Based on my reading of WCG Newsletter No 1 which I received by email on 12 February, there are no imminent new projects. Here is an extract from that newsletter:

General Updates:
To reduce time and resources needed to onboard new projects,
we are working on generalizing the current software platform to
enable a broader group of projects to use them. Working with
Distributive, we will also have a platform for easier and faster
onboarding of projects.
Work continues at the WCG data centre to refresh and expand
the systems, providing more and faster processing, as well as
storage. Efforts are ongoing to optimize the large data
bandwidth requirements of WCG

Re: New projects announcement ETA?

Mike, do you interpret that as meaning the WCG platform or Boinc platform or ... what is the 'platform' here?

Robokapp

This was from WCG so I have assumed they are referring to the WCG platform.
We know that they have had big bandwidth problems with ARP1 which has been stalling the downloads.

Re: New projects announcement ETA?

Hi all, I think that we need new projects urgently. We have just one running with some stability (MCM) , So, not appear forme that are enough to keep all WCG crunchers working.
If this scenario don´t change asap, many crunchers will continue jumping out from WCG. coffee idea
