Re: 2022-09-15 Update (Networking & Workunits)

The problem appears to be back. My 4 crunchers were downloading work fine for a few days.

Cheers coffee

Yup, for OPNG, it is as bad as it ever was. Other project's WUs (MCM1 and OPN1) seem to occasionally getting stuck too, but not as bad as it used to.
No problem whatsoever to upload any WUs (and those two NVIDIA machines that are currently running OPNG are loading up on WUs like there's no tomorrow... wink )

Which is probably why we’re seeing problems. My machine has recently downloaded a dozen OPNG WUs where it’s only ever downloaded one at a time before. If all the machines are doing likewise then overload follows.

This is one of the typical cases where I would love to see some more immediate response from the tech persons at WCG. There is barely any info coming FROM them, I am less certain even how much info will make it from the forum to the person(s) actually working on things like this...

Ralf

PS: Looks like the OPNG flood is over, now I am getting mostly MCM1s and they seem to get stuck more al by themselves... sad

Re: 2022-09-15 Update (Networking & Workunits)

This is perhaps not the right place for this question

I have for some time got the notice: World Community Grid: Notice from BOINC
This project seems to have changed its URL. When convenient, remove the project, then add http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/

How do I fix this, is it http or https and do I have to remove this project and rename it?

Hi Gretar, this has been a longstanding issue and you should just ignore it. This should not prevent you from crunching properly.

Hi C, any info on what's going on with the download issues that creeped up again and also what the status is on the other issues?

A bit more frequent information would definitely be appreciated...

Re: 2022-09-15 Update (Networking & Workunits)

I had issues with downloading wu's to my PC today. After careful consideration I decided to abort all of them, including those that were successful, and cease accepting any new wu's from WCG and only accept them from TN-Grid and the very few that seem to come from DENIS@home.

I'll continue to have my Android tablet process wu's for WCG exclusively, but until the issues are resolved with downloading and it's completely dependable in all situations, then I'll commit my crunching to a worthy grid that is dependable to provide me with wu's that don't hang on a download.

I'm not bailing on WCG. Whenever Krembil can (or perhaps if) can get everything back in terms of networking and all the other issues worked out then I'll be back to devoting some or all of my available CPU cycles for crunching to you/them. Until then, I just can't justify seeing loads of wu's hang for an indefinite periods of time. I hate to say it but since the move from IBM to Krembil it's felt like they've bailed on WCG and the volunteers. I *get* and understand there's been loads of issues and problems, but having spent 29 years in the financial data processing field who I worked for would have been out of business by now had this happened in plenty of our moves that I was involved in during those years.
