Re: Go EasyNews!

Only a thousand members have made the switch to WCG, with over 17k still running grid.org.

I wonder why?

Re: Go EasyNews!

These folks need to test their computer memory or cut back on overclocking.

You do have some struggling members, with no
points showing for up to 146 returned workunits.
If your member list is printed in point order, this is #955 to #962.

They are silent crunchers. Over 90% at grid.org don't read the forum. Perhaps there will be another wave coming over here when they find out that they need to be over here for your reward system.

Re: Go EasyNews!

I just switched my 3 computers from grid.org to WGC when I've seen that redeem gigs won't be accepted anymore with grid.org

So, that's a new member for the WGC Easynews team and three more devices for the project and for France. Impressive when you see our current stats and the fact that more than 17000 easynews members still "work" for grid.org

Just a question, what is the difference between grid.org and WGC. Do they only share the same client (United Devices) or is there a kind of link between the two project?

They share the same UD interface only. You cannot work on grid.org and WCG at the same time on the same computer as one will deinstall the other. The only "link" is that they are both currently sending Rosetta workunits to ISB. (Psst. It seems to run smoother over here.) They are both computing separate batches. The human part is finished and we are crunching the structure of a mustard plant until the new data is ready. The same appearance will become less obvious as WCG starts working on separate projects: HIV/Aids Nov 21, Rosetta Phase II soon, and some kind of cancer thingy early next year. There is also a new Linux/BOINC interface here and I see rumors of a new Windows/BOINC interface as an option.

Re: Go EasyNews!

Hello gordon24,
Do they only share the same client (United Devices)
Yes.

The World Community Grid and grid.org have both been crunching on the Human Proteome Folding Project for the Institute for Systems Biology but that project is about to end. On Monday the WCG will start on a new HIV project [. . and continue with HPF until it is finished]. Be sure you have uninstalled the grid.org agent. The variant of UD.exe that the WCG uses is too similar and they interfere with each other.

welcome aboard,
mycrofth

I was windering about that. I have three machines running, but only seem to get about two days of runtime each day. The machine I'm writing this on says it sent a result back 3 hours ago, but the website says this machine hasn't sent a result back in the last 12 hours.

Is this due to some sort of result validation?

BTW, I don't overclock, these are stock Compaq business desktop machines.

Thanks,
Q

Re: Go EasyNews!

You should be able to see the point score on your display task screen change when you send a result. It will change just after the receive and as it starts running the new workunit. Only the newest send/receive will show the highest total points. If points are the same ON ALL THREE of your computers, you would have a problem since something was not getting credited.

The results for members in the statistics on WCG are updated 4 times per day and once per day for teams (anyone out there --- join one if you haven't. There's no penalty.) after the 0000UTC midnight cut-off.

However, if you are running BOINC, the statistics are handled differently. See some of the BOINC threads if so.

I don't see any problem with your results:

Total Run Time (y:d:h:m:s) (Rank) 0:020:21:33:55 (#54,636)

I also have three machines running. The average is based on the number of days since you registered. Mine just went over 2, since I started the third machine only recently. It does not count the time you are preparing and sending/receiving, only run time.

If you signed up and immediately started crunching on all three machines, the average would be close to 3, but otherwise not. Your 2 day 14+ hour average looks pretty good and tells me that all machines are fairly busy. That also assumes that you are crunching 24/7. If machines are turned off and only crunch part-time, the averages will reflect that. I will unplug mine if lightning is around.
