Hi - I have a load of task from the Mapping Cancer Market 7.61 and they keep starting, running for a couple of minutes and when they get to close to 1% complete....they reset to 0%, and the Elapsed Time also resets.
Any idea what's going on? Boinc 7.20.4 (wxWidgets 3.1.5) on a 2018 intel Mac mini running Ventura 13.3 |

You posted this problem before, right?Any idea what's going on? Boinc 7.20.4 (wxWidgets 3.1.5) on a 2018 intel Mac mini running Ventura 13.3 I think at least from all the crunchers, I think nobody has seen that particular problem, certainly it is different from the problems that I have with "never ending" MCM1 WUs, once in a while. I will check with my (older) Macbook later tonight, I did have some issues with MCM on that one, but I haven't running this machine for a while now... Ralf ![]() |

Nope - only been on WGC for a few days. Finally got my rear in gear to start up when rosetta stopped issuing WUs consistently
I have abandoned MCM for the time being, since openpandemic appears to be working as expected when it isn't being cock-blocked by another project. |

Any idea what's going on? Boinc 7.20.4 (wxWidgets 3.1.5) on a 2018 intel Mac mini running Ventura 13.3 Have you set "Use at most ??? % of CPU time"[1] to something less than 100 (in order to reduce temperature and/or fan noise?) If so, that might be part of your problem... MCM1 behaves as if it has some sort of setup watchdog timer running and if the initialization doesn't complete within some limit it kicks it off again. Unfortunately, timers run on elapsed time, not CPU time used, so if (say) you set 50% of CPU it'll get half as much run-time in which to initialize :-) Not saying that is your problem, just that it might be worth a look if you have used that option. By the way, there have been lots of discussions in the Mapping Cancer Markers forum over the past few years regarding MCM1 doing what you describe. It appears that the incidence of this MCM1 issue (and others) on Apple kit increased round about the release of Catalina, so perhaps there's also something in a system library somewhere that might no longer work in quite the way the MCM1 code expects... Cheers - Al. [1] I'm referring to the second Usage limits option -- on my Linux BOINC 7.20 client the texts are truncated so it just says "Use at" and "% of CPU" :-) |

All my MCM wu kept resetting elapsed time and progress was at 0.000% with CPU throttled to 20%. I upped CPU to 100% usage and all 10 wu started progressing normally. I throttled CPU back to 40% and all wu kept going. Throttled back to 30% CPU and only 6 wu were still going. A few minutes later and now only 4 wu are going successfully.
I'll have to see if I can run at 40% without creating too much heat for my liking. That would seem to be a work-around for this issue. (This is on an M1 Pro MacBook Pro.) |

One way to do this is just to set the maximum number of work units in what ever profile you are using to 6. Since the supply of MCM is pretty steady, you would not have to have a queue any bigger than that. Cheers

A few hours in and MCM wu are having setbacks again. I've given up on these since it is clearly an issue on Macs.
