"No tasks sent
Tasks are committed to other platforms"

Maybe it is time for:
"No tasks received
Computers are committed to other projects"

Re: 2023-04-26 Update (system errors update)

@Cyclops,

Any possibility on getting updates on:

1) rationale on the current slow release rates of WU's?

2) Status on EACH project's progress on:
WU prep,
releasing of WU's to volunteers and
WU validation status?

3) Your current Web site support focus?

Please, share information!

Re: 2023-04-26 Update (system errors update)

The silence on any news is deafening. This is at least the third day of either a slowdown or entire lack of any units. There has not been one iota of information posted on the forums, Twitter, or Facebook about any reasons behind this.
I realize I am just a volunteer and Krembil does not have to tell me anything, but this lack of information is really poor customer service. At the very least the researchers could chime in and inform the volunteers about the circumstance for their particular projects.
It would only take about 2 minutes to post some information at least acknowledging the existence of the "outage."
Cheers

Yeah, the lack of communication is really frustrating, specially when seeing that there is apparently time for moderator games on the forum, when all that is asked for is some honest answers and status updates instead of constant meaningless platitudes... sad

Given the announcement "World Community Grid finished the alpha testing, and is restarting on April 13" to be still wondering what's happening to WUs three or more weeks later is really frustrating. Hardly a "tell the world to join" statusSome (any?) information would be welcome.

That's the biggest part of the problems here. Yes, issues can happen, but every time things look like they are improving and long standing issues could possibly be addressed next, the folks behind/representing WCG are uniquely adapt in stepping in yet another grease pot.
Beside being rather late in admitting that the finances for running the project are an overall issue, the overall way how this is all handled publicly isn't necessarily helping in finding people/organizations willing to help with that. Or chose WCG as a partner for their scientific DC needs...

Re: 2023-04-26 Update (system errors update)

Where the heck are any of the WCG employees or project scientists (such as the OPN1 scientists)??? Why was there some nebulous BS "we're done with alpha testing, now we're live!!11" that didn't really have any weight behind it except maybe a new flash storage system but none of the major issues resolved?

As I recall, ARP1 was 1 out of 3 weather or climate projects that WCG accepted. But only ARP1 launched, while the other two were in the works. Then IBM pulled the plug (and I'll be d*mned if I give IBM any of my business in the future). Is it safe to assume the other two climate projects gave up or found a home somewhere else?

This forum is still 15 years old and obsolete and probably full of security vulnerabilities.

Folding@home is thriving and has many labs, and heck, they have a distributed network of infrastructure with many, many servers (even each scientific lab spins up a server or two for work unit distribution or collection). I wonder if WCG can follow that model and re-architect the BOINC layout so that individual projects (like at Scripps, the SCC team in Japan, the HSTB team in UK, etc.) can all spin up WCG servers around the world so that Krembil/UHN/SHARCNET don't carry the entire load.

And again it seems as if all validators are up the creek without a paddle. I have lots of tasks that are finished by all wingmen, as well as singletons, waiting, and waiting, for a visit by the validator.

The branching out into climate research was, I believe, a bit of corporate synergy, due to IBM buying (of all things) The Weather Channel. I have no inside info, but I wouldn't be holding out hope for those projects joining WCG, but I'm willing to be surprised. I assume they were left high and dry by IBM

BOINC is open source, so WCG could fork BOINC or (far less drastically) submit PRs to the codebase, but I don't get the feeling that there is currently the bandwidth for that sort of development.
