As I recall, ARP1 was 1 out of 3 weather or climate projects that WCG accepted. But only ARP1 launched, while the other two were in the works....Is it safe to assume the other two climate projects gave up or found a home somewhere else? The branching out into climate research was, I believe, a bit of corporate synergy, due to IBM buying (of all things) The Weather Channel. I have no inside info, but I wouldn't be holding out hope for those projects joining WCG, but I'm willing to be surprised. I assume they were left high and dry by IBM I recall reading a long time ago (in IBM's time running WCG, I think, that one of the other climate projects would not go ahead but don't know the current status of the third. Folding@home is thriving... I wonder if WCG can follow that model and re-architect the BOINC BOINC is open source, so WCG could fork BOINC or (far less drastically) submit PRs to the codebase, but I don't get the feeling that there is currently the bandwidth for that sort of development. The thought of the current under-resourced team taking on any major development beyond fixing what they have fills me with dread. WCG "as-is" working properly is what we want as a priority. (Meanwhile, any new projects wanting to come in might be better off going with a stand-alone vanilla BOINC rather than the possibly over-engineered IBM set-up Krembil have inherited.) |

Problem seems to be solved now? I just got huge loads, of MCM1 and OPNG, and decent numbers of SCC. No OPN1 or ARP wu's etc yet.

Not by a long shot...I looks solved for what I'm seeing. Where I got only 3-4 workunits per day on all my machines during the last few days, an hour or two or so ago, I got literally HUNDREDS of workunits on each machine (my cache is pretty large). Every time I press 'Update project' I seem to get a new flood of work units. [Edit 2 times, last edit by wildhagen at May 4, 2023 3:39:49 PM] |

WUs have been coming in for the last 7h or so, but as things keep proceeding at WCG Towers, who knows how long this lasts before it falls flat on the face yet again... Ralf PS: Go Panthers! ![]() |

Well that was stupid... I logged then told me I don't have enough permissions. I just want to post not take over the world...
Anyways, DENIS@home has work available right now. I suspended Asteroids to see if I could pick up any WCG cancer and I was pleasantly provided with new work from DENIS. Unfortunately, no Android client for them at this time. |

Please see recent posts in arp - Work Available.
----------------------------------------Using ARP1_33870_119 as an example, 2 copies had been returned before the deadline. The third copy did not reply. Only 2 copies needed to be returned to complete the quorum but another 2 copies were sent out after the deadline unnecessarily. Those machines could have been crunching something else more productively. Also, the initial copies were sent out with a 36 hour deadline when the extremes usually start with 72 hours. This is a very short deadline when the timestep has been shortened. Units with an 18 sec timestep can take nearly twice as long as units with a 36 sec timestep.
