Re: Crunchers Inc....

Hey Jonathan! The 50 degree limit is arbitrary on my part, I'm really not sure what the temp ceiling is on these things. I have some XP-M's that run at 55-60 24/7 all summer and drop down to 50-55 this time of year. They don't seem to mind but my A/C unit has a hard time keeping my upstairs cool! wink

Re: Crunchers Inc....

BOINC benchmark stats put it at 2.5 times as fast as my 3200+, and that was o/c'd by 10% thinking

My Venice 3000+ runs at 2320 at the moment and scores 2217 & 4105. How does your Opty compare?

Rick, why on earth do you need a laptop with 2 gig of RAM? shock

Because of some of the work realated stuff, and someone wasn't paying attantion when I ordered it. biggrin It will also have a WI FI moblie card, so I'll be able to crunch and ping while driving. devilish .
Just wish it didn't have to be a Microsloth box.

Rick

Has a Visual of the NSA trying to locate you as you drive along....

Rudi..... they already know because of the chip in my head. biggrin
and I'd order myself 2 more if I could get away with it.

The WI FI moble card is something I've been testing along with 3 or 4 others I work with. I posted about it last month in the tech support forum. I works very well over most of the city, and also works in some airports here in the states. Connection speeds vary depending on distance, but generally hold close to a low end DSL connection on average.
It also works while driving, just close the LP, and let it run while on the drive to and from work.

If anyones intrested in the card or the provided info let me know.

Be well all,
Rick

Re: Crunchers Inc....

Cuz,

I hear you. 50c is a good upper limit. I want to reduce temps by 20c in order to increase voltage and get another 10-15% out of it. Water (and maybe a TEC) will be the only way of doing this. But, its a law of diminishing returns - more cost is going in to running these things and keeping them cool than if I just bought another system and plugged it in.... wink

Jonathan.

Same conclusion I came to. I considered purchasing a better HS/F and high end memory to get a better overclock but I needed to keep the cost down so I went with stock cooling and value memory. I'll be happy with 2.3 @ 50c if I can't push it any higher and even if it goes higher now, I'll have to back it off when the weather warms up.

Yes you do have to download and install the client first to get access to the forums and post.

That's cool with me- I may want to run the project. I just have to make some time to check it out. Was wondering why it wasn't working, but now I know. See you guys soon!

Hi Pondy!

See our titles have changed. Big V, amongst others, is now respectfully referred to as a Veteran Cruncher.

Cardigan, Zimmer Frame and Pension Book mandatory I suspect.
