Last 4 weeks I received almost no WU's which is a pity. Meanwhile I'm running 100 % Einstein, but like start sharing again with MCM. When-o-when will I / we receive WU';s again ?

The machines have been tied up processing past complete WUs. I think that once that is done we will get a better supply of WUs.
Monday will give us OPNGs and hopefully some MCMs as well, but this could slip to Tuesday or Wednesday . |

Finally got a few tasks for the Windows machine at 01:57:11 UTC on March 23. Not nearly enough to keep it busy very long. Nothing for quite some time on the Linux machines, so I have turned them off for the time being. When the supply resumes I will start them again.

No problems at all to get new CPU tasks for me. So far today, I've been getting 22 "new" tasks, and 27 "resends". No decision has been made to only run tasks on the GPU, other than for OPN, which now only run OPNG tasks. But OPNG is on a pause now. "Other platforms" does not mean GPU's, but it means other Operating Systems, than the one you are running. For example if you run Windows, it means that it for the moment could be tasks available for Linux, but not for Windows, (or the other way around, depending upon which system you are running.) Good to hear that CPU work will still be coming down the pipe. I DO see the references to GPU (work available), along with 'No Tasks Available' messages in the log. I understand that there may be differences in how the data is set up, for GPU, but not clear on why the OS (running Linux) would matter - surely the CPU work unit data format is the same, just a different (OS dependent) bit of code processing that data. Not trying to be a smart@$$, just trying to understand... Here's a bit from my log to illustrate what I'm seeing: Fri 22 Mar 2024 08:56:30 AM EDT | World Community Grid | Requesting new tasks for CPU Fri 22 Mar 2024 08:56:34 AM EDT | World Community Grid | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks Fri 22 Mar 2024 08:56:34 AM EDT | World Community Grid | No tasks sent Fri 22 Mar 2024 08:56:34 AM EDT | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for OpenPandemics - COVID 19 Fri 22 Mar 2024 08:56:34 AM EDT | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for OpenPandemics - COVID-19 - GPU Fri 22 Mar 2024 08:56:34 AM EDT | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Africa Rainfall Project Fri 22 Mar 2024 08:56:34 AM EDT | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Help Stop TB Fri 22 Mar 2024 08:56:34 AM EDT | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Mapping Cancer Markers Fri 22 Mar 2024 08:56:34 AM EDT | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Smash Childhood Cancer Fri 22 Mar 2024 08:56:34 AM EDT | World Community Grid | Tasks for NVIDIA GPU are available, but your preferences are set to not accept them Fri 22 Mar 2024 08:56:34 AM EDT | World Community Grid | Tasks for AMD/ATI GPU are available, but your preferences are set to not accept them Fri 22 Mar 2024 08:56:34 AM EDT | World Community Grid | Tasks for Intel GPU are available, but your preferences are set to not accept them |

I understand that there may be differences in how the data is set up, for GPU, but not clear on why the OS (running Linux) would matter - surely the CPU work unit data format is the same, just a different (OS dependent) bit of code processing that data. Not trying to be a smart@$$, just trying to understand... BOINC allows a project to specify that the various tasks for a given workunit should all go to similar hardware and/or similar operating systems, in order to minimize the likelihood of results differing because of hardware, compiler or runtime library differences -- this is important for projects that require identity of results (like ARP1) or very high similarity in order to validate. As far as I am aware, WCG uses this mode for all its projects, including those that might sometimes allow validation without a wingman (SCC1, OPNG) as the occasional consistency checks they use should be done by the same sort of trusted host... That rule applies for as long as the WU has results that are "active" (returned without error or not yet returned.) If retries are needed, their availability may still be constrained by this, in which case you might see something like "results are committed to other platforms" in the BOINC log. Cheers - Al. P.S. As Unixchick mentioned, whiile they are clearing out the backlog of validated MCM1 results, getting new work is sometimes a bit of a lottery anyway :-( [Edit 1 times, last edit by alanb1951 at Mar 23, 2024 8:36:02 PM] |

Thanks for the explanation, it does make sense the way you explained it.
I believe in the projects that WCG runs, so I will continue to wait for work units. Meanwhile, crunching SiDock@home... |
