Re: New project is coming!

So, how's MAM doing now then? I noticed the failed Beta test run of Linux tasks. (I'm on Windows only)
Any update on when Windows MAM Beta tasks are being released?

Yes, I have read the April 4, 2025, Operational Status.

Re: New project is coming!

We got another update... posting here.
April 8, 2025

MAM1 Beta Linux Build Fixed in version 7.02: We have fixed the issue causing crashes during initialization with the Linux 64-bit build, and released an updated MAM1 application version 7.02 for Linux.

MAM1 Beta Batches MAM1_9800035 and MAM1_9800036: A small 4-work units batch (MAM1_9800035) to confirm the fix and a larger 100 work units batch (MAM1_9800036) were released yesterday night and this morning, respectively. So far no errors have been returned from either batch.

Reported Missing Beta Results, Lack of Results on Community Stats Page: As some volunteers have noted, we have not yet run the validators and assimilators for MAM1. We did write and build the validators and assimilators, which are essentially the same as those for MCM1. If there are no surprises, we expect to schedule these as daemons and let them run indefinitely assuming the initial batches of results validate without issue.

Windows 64-bit Build Next: Primary effort at the moment is on resolving the previously mentioned issues with the Windows build of the MAM1 application. We plan to make a more formal post in the Beta Testing thread for reporting issues once we release the initial Windows version.

4 + 100 Work units? That's it with Linux Beta testing for now?

I think the answer to that lies in another section of the same post...

There isn't really much point in doing lots more testing on Linux until they are sure that none of the changes they make to get the Windows version(s) viable might also require a rebuild of the Linux version (because of code restructuring?)...

Cheers - Al.

Re: New project is coming!

Ok, but hopefully there will be more than just a couple of hundred Beta test units available on each OS. I wouldn't mind to get more hours on beta testing to finally get a badge. After five years I am still at 7 hours total.

Yeah, me too. I'm at 11 days and 4 hours on Beta. Not far away from the first 14-day badge. So I'm waiting for the Windows version.

Re: New project is coming!

What project/profile settings are needed to ensure we are asking for beta tasks?

Re: New project is coming!

go to "my contribution" and "Beta testing". You need to check the box. Furthermore you should have "allow CPU work" checked under you profile. It looks like you need to have one active project checked as well. Most people choose "Covid" since there is no work at the moment

For one project in the distant past WCG released the Windows build several weeks before the Linux build. It wouldn’t surprise me to see them release the Linux build first for MAM1.

Was that back in the days when Linux users were a much smaller part of the WCG population? If so, that was perfectly understandable.

However, Windows is [as far as I know] still their largest user base so I'd be very surprised if they let the Linux version go live first unless they have severe problems getting a Windows version ready for and/or through Beta testing. I'd reckon that they would want to run exhaustive multi-platform Beta tests (at a minimum, Windows v. Linux!) to ensure that results produced on each platform type are similar to within acceptable limits! (That might entail issuing certain batches more than once [with different numbers] and constraining each batch to a single platform...)

Just an opinion, of course :-)

Cheers - Al.

P.S. As a Linux-only BOINC contributor, I'd be delighted to see live work as soon as possible, but I'd rather it uses a thoroughly proven application :-)
