applause We are # 1 !!!

Cause WE are every crunchers: WCG + Grid.org + Boinc, and WCG is not the bigger Grid plateform smile . So Grid Computing is far ahead from supercalcs, possibly ahead of the accumulated power of the 10 biggers, in my point of view love struck .Every one of us is goaling to benefit humanity wink freely.

Let us all forge ahead to 1 million teraflops and fight the only way we can through the crunch of huge amounts of data to do something to stop this aids scorge!!!

crunch on all !!!!!!

Re: What is the combined speed of the grid? in teraflops per second? are we no#10 alredy in the 500 list?

My Favourite question

Like a red rag to a bull I can't resist wink

It's a guesstimate but my Athlon 3200+ (Sorry folks for those who have heard it before blushing ) with it's 512Mb of Ram gets 29.4 points per hour and benchmarks at 3.447GFlops. I'd think that was around the average amount of memory in a system.

Quick Question,
Where did you get the Flops rating from, UD benchmark or LINPACK
I run under BOINC where we have no Flops benchmark or know what UD provide.

To be comparative you need to find out what the Linpack score is for 'WCG' which you could estimate the maximum for by finding your Average computer's Linpack score then multipling, athough note different processors/OS do vary this. I have a feeling your using a UD flops score so you really comparing apples to oranges sort of thing.

Note that the above way does not take into account the communication time between the whole lot, which it would do on the TOPxxx computer systems, hence why I say maximum score.

Although not to burst anyone bubble (as I have no idea what it would really be) it's still a hell of a lot of computing power.

For comparision

Find-a-Drug.org
at it's peak had ~220,000,000 GFlops returned in a day
( 230,000 hrs of work/day)

There an AthlonXP 3200+ had a GFlop rating of 1760 Glops/hr (~0.488 GFlop/s) in its benchmark.

BOINC combined
Average floating point operations per second 251,352.1 GigaFLOPs ( 251.352 TeraFLOPS) I have no idea how they measure either.

OK did some looking

Your ~ AthlonXP 2800+ average computer which is ~ 1.8GHz AthlonXP Barton (since your comparing to the 3200+) has a LINPACK optimised score of ~ 0.66GFlop/s

Re: What is the combined speed of the grid? in teraflops per second? are we no#10 alredy in the 500 list?

I realise it's not a Linpack Benchmark - the figures I have quoted above come from the Whetstone FPU Benchmark in SiSoft's Sandra which does indeed give 3.447 GFlops for my non-overclocked Athlon XP 3200+ without any CPU optimisations which represents the reality of the WCG agent.

I can't see how one Flop is any different to any other Flop.

but I'm sure someone will rain on my parade as they always do when you try to bring good news

note this line in the second post

Sorry about all the caveats but I'm still battered and bruised from the first time I tried to cheer folk up with this kind of news

Go on take a pop I'm used to it now.

Happy Crunching

Dave beat up
