It's been a while since we heard news and predicaments about finishing HPF1 (+swiss prot) project. WCG grid is, I think, being built on the principle of dynamics and transparency of information so it shouldn't be allowed this kind of still life. I know that all the people here will crunch data anyway, as long as it is valid and new, but it would be very beneficial if some investigating work is done by community admins, and senior staff of the WCG. If anything, bother Dr. Bonneau to put some small post

I've been curious as to the status of this research paper that was mentioned. I'd like to see something published.

We do know they have a draft version, and I hope it will be published soon. But from what little I know of the academic process, it could easily take a year or more from draft to peer-reviewed journal.
I expect they will publish online as soon as they have a final version. The scientists are supposed to update us monthly, and (if memory serves) it was about a month ago we last heard from the HPF scientists - so an update is due. I'm sure Dr. Bonneau will be reminded by WCG. |

It is very important that the results of our crunching, are published ASAP. Since publishing a protene databank would get scientists looking/using our results. that would lead to good media coverage and in turn lend credibility to this project in the eyes of the masses. which would increase members for both the AIDS and HPF projects.
If u follow the members tally, we have not been adding many people to WCG lately, and with how many people there are on the net world-wide that is disheartening. |

New projects are more likely to bring new members than the conclusion of existing projects.
I'm sure the Olsen Lab and WCG will milk the results and new phase for all the media attention they can get. But still, calling your local media can't hurt, and may help a lot. |

yes, but the media wants something tangible to report. And reporting on how scientists are useing the info and how its helping them speed up research has more substance.

A new update just went up from NYU.
----------------------------------------as to the date of publication question. We have a yeast draft... but publishing science cannot be rushed. The review process takes a while. Scientific writing must be exact. Overall it is a huge pain in the butt ... But without this rigour we would have little foundation on which to base the next generation of science. This rigour is why science works. So bear with us. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 14, 2006 7:30:54 PM] |
