BOINC Won't attach says account not found

I accidentally detached from WCG instead of just not allowing new work. When I went back to attach it keeps coming up account not found when trying to attach. I've attached several other computers on the same network so it doesn't have anything to do with connectivity issues.

Any suggestions?

Double check the information you are using to attach with.

What version of BOINC is it?

Re: BOINC Won't attach says account not found

i pained my brain and propose you check:

1. The proper device name as what the specific computer is known with at WCG
2. Go to the BOINC profile in your browser and open up the page where it shows the account keys.

Open in the "advanced" menu of BOINC (if 5.4.9) and take "select computer"

3. Copy / Past the computer name that is known at WCG BOINC profile as can be seen in the profile/device manager pages.
4. Copy / Past the BOINC account key

Worked for me....if still on older BOINC version like 5.2.13, upgrade....the graphs are nicer too.

*eep*

To attach to a project, you need to go to Tools->Attach to project.

You need the project URL: www.worldcommunitygrid.org
and your account key. Newer BOINC versions may instead ask for your WCG username and password.

Sekerob, you're mixing it up with connecting to a remote computer, and your advice is wrong for that, too. :-p

I would recommend that you download and install the 5.4.9 BOINC client. This isn't required, but it will eliminate the use of the Account Key. Instead you will be able to use your member name and password.

You can download the 5.4.9 client by visiting the page below:

Re: BOINC Won't attach says account not found

Very interesting didactylos....i wrote what i did yesterday connecting/selecting/attaching to a computer.....worked for me and just repeated it for the heck of it in 5.4.9....could it be multiple ways of connecting are possible?...my device is called "tpdc-mxirnto2ft" which i also put into the remote_hosts.cfg file and the boinc key i put in the gui_rpc_auth.cfg file. To me, though BOINC (also BOINCView) and device are on the same machine...the control is 'virtually' treated as remote, with RPC as the communication vehicle.

Possibly things got lost in translation and the dutch interface i'm running on has poor translations e.g. Tools has become "Advanced" if translated back from dutch to english.....attaching to a project even in 5.4.9. in my case happily accepts the www.w....d.org. oh well knreed's indication that the account key would no longer be required suggest there's something to it ;>)

In fact after checking the latest BOINC wiki and looking at a screenprint i wonder if you're running 5.2.13, which has a menu bar, file, tools, help, whereas the 5.4.9 menubar goes like file, settings(commands), preferences, advanced, help (translated from dutch).

I vaguely remember one of the community advisors writing he/she was still running 5.2.13 confused could it be you?

Re: BOINC Won't attach says account not found

Lost in translation indeed!

You shouldn't put your account key in gui_rpc_auth.cfg - it is a password, and you should either use the autogenerated random password, or choose your own password.

I think you are still confusing attaching to a project (when you first join WCG) and connecting to a remote computer (when you want to use BOINC View or BOINC Manager on a different computer to the one running BOINC).

I use both versions of BOINC, as do some of the other CAs. It makes it much easier to refer to the actual interface. Unfortunately, I don't use the Dutch version (not that it would help - I don't speak Dutch!)
