Re: What's your energy bill like?

well my summer bill came thru and as the summer, particular August was cool, the price hike got compensated to produce a fairly cool bill for July / August of 175 Euro (120 pounds). But, if we think we got worries, read this: IT chiefs urged to tackle "energy crisis"

If still looking for that 35 watt AMD, start looking for a 35 watt GPU as well. This F@H GPU project starts great by heating that processor to 90C, put your fans to semi max, sucks 125wh and still takes 50% of the CPU time (so it is written at some foreign language threads). I'll wait a few years for the 'awesome' 20-40 fold throughput.

ciao

PS on fuel, the picklist of price excuses is being recycled again........Oil is up, thus we have to increase our price now in order to be able to pay for the re-stock at the higher price..... Oil is down, but before we can lower our price, we first have to sell the expense gasoline stock in the tanks crying

tongue Re: What's your energy bill like?

I have Whined about this before.. (Moons ago)
My winter Bill was $4.50 for 1 mo!-12 Crunchers.
Now..summer $1.40s (down to- 4 Crunchers w\1 remote)...

As a fellow Cruncher and Nemesis once pointed
out to me; the real reason D.C. originated is that it COSTS TOO MUCH
to run the super computers for this (OUR) amount of data.
IMHO There would be a _hi_ load more "Super Comps" if it were cost-effective.

One Happy Slave...

Re: What's your energy bill like?

We ( me and my lass), have a separate power meter for the machines. We pay $80 Au a quarter to run six oldish machines @ 12Ghz collective. Two more coming soon. More effective than donating to charity and a lot more fun. biggrin

Try increasing the summertime house temperature by 1 degree (C) and u save a bundle, 2 degrees (C), and u can buy that new Galloway golf club set. Really......just takes a little to get used to

I keep it 80°F as it is... If I run it any higher I'll have puters shutting down all over the place... and ya can't crunch when their not running...

Re: What's your energy bill like?

http://www.wbuf.noaa.gov/tempfc.htm...... 26.66C wow...i was thinking of 25 .... spend a few hundred on insulation last winter and the bill went down dramatically......and than there is Speedfan (windows)
or smcFanControl (Mac) which increases the ventialtor revs according to a target internal PC temp.

Hey Lawrence, if u read this, how about a Useful Utilities section for MAC.... gave u the first one above ;>) (and lets not forget those Linux tweakers :>)
