Anyway to run a specific project on only 1 computer?

Let's say I have 2 computers and wanted 1 to run FAAH and other to run HDC...can this be done automatically? They both fulfill the min requirements for any project.

Sadly, BOINC doesn't support different project choices for different computers.

May I ask why you want to do this?

If you really need to do this (although I can't think why you should) then you will have to create two accounts.

Re: Anyway to run a specific project on only 1 computer?

Someone figured a trick with the new 'give me alternate work' option, but it only works if computer 2 or 3 is not fit to do HDC. Select HDC as only project in 'My Profiles' and the alternate work option. It would crunch on the >-750 mb ram machine(s). Because <750mb ram machines would signal servers it cant handle HDC, it would start to get FAAH which fits in >= 250 mb ram machines. But that only works until HPF2 would restarts which needs = 512 mb ram machines. Then the 512 machine would start to get FAAH+HPF2 etc etc.

Second option, without creating a new account is install UD agent on the machine where u wish to crunch FAAH. UD agent allows project selection down to device level. Bah.

Third option, The Didactylos suggestion of a fix with second account, could still get consolidated into a combined result by creating your own (sub)team. Dont now if a team could roll into another team? Laborious.

argh, this post has number 666.....time to go to bed.

Hey... I was thinking the same thing. All but two of my machines have 2gb of RAM. The two "others" are an IBM Thinkpad and a homebuilt clone, both with just 512mb, so they won't do the cancer projects, which need more memory. The Thinkpad is using the UD client and the homebuilt is using BOINC. Neither are accepting work right now since they don't have enough memory to run Cancer.

confused Re: Anyway to run a specific project on only 1 computer?

Hello enlightenedpoint,
This is one of the situations for which the checkbox 'If there is no work available for my computer for the projects I have selected above, please send me work from another project (this option only applies to BOINC agents).' was developed and added to the My Projects web page.

I have been informed (but have not personally confirmed) that it activates if either the server runs out of work units for the selected project(s) OR the machine does not meet minimum requirements for the selected project(s).

Could you try it and let us know for sure whether or not it works?

Lawrence

Re: Anyway to run a specific project on only 1 computer?

So it has been confirmed that checking the box for If there is no work available for my computer for the projects I have selected above, please send me work from another project works correctly consistently?

Maybe someone born and raised in the UK can translate.

It may or may not have been an intended byproduct of the way BOINC works and this rule but one >=750mb Ram machine getting HDC only as the sole selected project, and FAAH going to a lower spec machine on BOINC and BOINC only, because of this "i dont want my machine(s) to idle" is a boon.
