WCG Security Practices

I recently downloaded the boinc agent and then received an email from wcg with my userid and password in clear text. Which brings up the question why have a userid and password at all if they're going to send it out in readable format through the internet ?

Re: WCG Security Practices

I think the idea is to change the password immediately confused

Get these types of mails regularly, whenever i lost the original, so started a strong-passworded, password file...if ever i loose that one i'm up S.... creek.

ciao

Re: WCG Security Practices

robert1p, that didn't happen when I joined.

I'll look into it further, since this is one of my pet peeves.

You should only be emailed your password if you request it via the "forgot password" feature.

What you may be seeing is a change due to the alteration of the client so it accepts username and password instead of an account key.

As I said, I'll look into it.

Re: WCG Security Practices

Hello robert1p,
Good catch! Yes, somehow during all the website changes we started sending out passwords to newly registering members. We are going to change that so that people have to request lost passwords.
