Beta Test Participate flag will not save

I have tried to select to participate in the Beta test Program by selecting it for my "Home" profile. When I save the page, it reports success, but when I revisit the page, the setting has cleared.

What is wrong?

Re: Beta Test Participate flag will not save

isnt that wonderful.....i never selected Beta on all profiles - only wanted it on 'default' and found it ticked on all profiles (or been sleeping when i did). When i deselected 'home', it stuck, until i enabled scripting......there are some java elements......(turning the other cheek wink )

PS maybe WCG just decided they had enough Beta testers and just disabled it and forgot to announce it shock

Re: Beta Test Participate flag will not save

I have just tried again. I find that I CAN select Default and Work (which I dont want), but cannot select HOME, which I DO want.

As you say - some sort of bug in the java script that executes on save.

Re: Beta Test Participate flag will not save

Crunching would be so boring if not for all these crazy glitches. The beta test participate flag worked fine for me though I haven't a clue why.

Now this is a bit off topic but you might find it helpful. I discovered a while back that having my preferences saved on the website was inconvenient and a little restrictive. Then I discovered this info at the official BOINC site which allows some of your preferences to be kept on your local machines. I find it far less restrictive and you might too. BTW, a value of 1 rather than 0 in the following line selects "run if user actrive", value of 0 selects screensaver mode.

<run_if_user_active>0</run_if_user_active>

Info at the link Sekerob gave us in his first post in this thread suggests that the next version of BOINC will have an editor that will alllow easy creation and editing of the global preferences override file but if you want to have that ability now you can. Note the the BOINC site link I give above does not show how to save ALL your preferences on your disc but perhaps it helps enough to get you out of the little conundrum you're in now with the beta test flag.

Re: Beta Test Participate flag will not save

Actually, we discovered that there is a bug. We were very impressed with how many people were signing up. Then we discovered that anyone who updated their BOINC profile got signed up for beta test. That means that we are going to have to unsign up everyone and then ask everyone to sign up again becuase a lot of people that 'signed up' didn't actually. Don't do anything yet becuase we have not deployed the fix (and probably won't until early next week). When the fix is deployed and everyone is unsigned up we will post in the beta announcments forum.

To make up for our mistake though we will be adding the ability for people to choose which project they want to participate in at the BOINC device profile level (similar to what the UD device profiles offer).

Re: Beta Test Participate flag will not save

Following knreed's announcement that the bug is now fixed, I tried to sign up again

I still cannot make the flag for "Home" stick!

Is there still a problem?

confused Re: Beta Test Participate flag will not save

Hello Dirk Gently,
I used My Grid - Beta Testing right after knreed posted his message. It worked fine for me.

Re: Beta Test Participate flag will not save

It works for me on August 18. Tried it in Internet Explorer and Firefox on Windows as well as Firefox on Linux. It works for Default, Home, School and Work.

Re: Beta Test Participate flag will not save

I tried again - still will not save "Home".

I tried with FIREFOX - IT WORKS!

Back to Internet Explorer - flag now shown for "Home" - but disappears again if I save with IE. I can definitely only set "Default" and "Work" using IE.

I have cleared Internet cache and WCG cookie - no difference.

Re: Beta Test Participate flag will not save

Strange stuff. Maybe somebody will find the reason for all that but in the meantime glad to hear you've found a way to make it work cool
