hello
some days ago (last week?) I recognised, that the wcgridHCMD.exe consumes just 50% of my cpu-power. long ago I added a configuration, that just 98% should be used, but I often changed the OS (reinstalled windows dozen times) and run it on several systems multiboot: W2K, XP, (from same program-dir) and as Linux-service. When I restarted WCGrid the first days, the new process took full cpu-power. Today even this don´t work anymore. JJJ |

Normally this is caused by a computer with a dual core CPU, or with hyperthreading enabled. Is that what's happening here?

no, it isn´t.
sorry, I forgot to tell. the cpu is an athlon XP-M 2500+ @ 2,4ghz. my last post was written running wxp, this time I booted W2k and noticed, that wcgridHCMD.exe uses full cpu power. al |

Greetings,
Are you using the CPU throttle? All work units for UD run at under 60% CPU by default unless you change this setting through the CPU throttle tool. I have provided the link below. This is a feature that was added a few months back and you may not have noticed it. http://worldcommunitygrid.org/files/WCGridMaxCPU.exe Hope this helps, -Uplinger |

What I had is different problem. I used default CPU throttle setting and cpu was often at 100%. WU was at 50% but still CPU was sometimes at 100%.
----------------------------------------I have vista OS if this make any difference... Anyway this program (WCGridMaxCPU.exe) solved my problem. Now it's always at 60%. ![]() |

----------------------------------------There are periods that some of the science projects in default, by design, are running at 100% to. Which one were you observing this behavior? I'm curious as to what you did to get the UD agent to work. Can you, pretty plz, read the Start Here forum Vista How To post and tell what you did: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=12856 I'm looking for volunteers to test ride Threadmaster on Vista.... that one would give the CPU usage definitely a stable percent from the first thru the last minute. (Maybe that will give BOINC also a smooth CPU control).

Uf, I don’t remember really every detail, but I think I gave all WCG directories access rights to everyone. By default I turned off UAC. Still WCG does not work 100% ok, for example if I click to se WU graphic (icon with "i" in circle) UD get stuck that second. But all the rest seems ok for over two months now.

cheers uplinger and PiA, solved my problem - it was only allowing 30% fo the CPU to be allocated to it, running vista and was via the UD agent on FightingAids@Home

Many thanks. I am new to WCG (was on grid.org for many years).
I had been wandering how to go about raising my CPU load because it was at 60% and I used to have it at 100% with grid, so I was used it running at full power. Now I was able to set it to what I want. |
