Is there a way for me to limit the number of tasks in my queue from any one project?
----------------------------------------This is not about a WCG project, but a BOINC project. I came here because I am running 5.10.22. If I should direct this to a BOINC forum, please advise me. I currently have a Spinhenge task Ready to Report and three new tasks in my queue. I am registered for about 6 projects and I want them all to run. So, if there is a way for me to limit the queue to, say, two tasks at any one time, I would like to know. |

In short: no.
You can specify project weights. So, if you want to do one hour of work for WCG for every hour you do on another project, you can set WCG's weight to 500. BOINC uses a "debt" concept to decide which project to run. This means that if a project needs to hog your processor for a few days, it can - but then BOINC will ignore it until its debt is reduced. This works well, but can be a little unexpected if you anticipated that BOINC would just work on all your projects equally in turn. |

I always accept no more than 8 tasks at the time.. In the project manager, there is an option to : Update , Suspend, No new task etc. Just learn how to manage these options and you will also be able to get only 8 tasks at the time .
There is no used to download 2 pages of tasks and not being sure to finish them in a timely manner... we will end up with a lot of " pending validation" if peoples take too much time to finish their 2 pages of tasks. When I first started, the program did fill me up with 2 full pages of tasks and they were due to upload almost 2 weeks later.... at this rate , they will find a cure only in the year 2034 , I dislike having a " pending validation" for more than a few days, I feel like I'm loosing my time waiting for someone else with a pentium 450 to finish his 2 pages of tasks before uploading and validating my task. |

So, that's great!!
----------------------------------------Didactylos, how does one specify the weighting? and Sirius11, how and where do you limit tasks? Thanks so much for your help. |

Set it here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/v...iguration.do?name=Default
You can also set the amount of work to be queued. Note that the amount is specified in days - work unit sizes vary, so you may get a couple of big ones or many small ones. I recommend you do not use sirius11's technique - it is very labour intensive and provides no benefit. |

Hi sirius11! I think you missed something about units pending validation and members having a long queue of WUs. The normal way they do that is by setting their preferences to x days of extra work, or the equivalent in older releases of Boinc. x days are x days, whatever the speed of your PC. I would even say that those who have super fast machines are causing more trouble as far as pending validation is concerned. A discussion in another thread mentioned 220 WUs per day for a quad processor. On such a machine adding one day of extra work in the queue would mean delaying 220 more Wus. The same decision for the Pentium 450 of your example would affect only very few WUs, if any. Cheers. Jean. |
