How to Exclude GPU (Solved)

I know this is not exactly the right place to ask
but I thought someone here might help...

So I am running MilkyWay (GPU only) along side WCG (CPU only)
and I want to exclude all but one GPU.

From searching I found http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration#Options

I added the <ignore_cuda_dev>1</ignore_cuda_dev>
<ignore_cuda_dev>2</ignore_cuda_dev>
to the cc_config.xml between <options> </options>
but no effect.... still uses all 3 GPUs

Can anyone point me in the right direction ?

Here is what I have

Re: How to Exclude GPU

Hi Tomas T
Did you restart BOINC or do a "Read config file" after changing cc_config.xml? If so you should see a message like:
1/8/2011 10:12:12 AM Config: ignoring NVIDIA GPU 0
...

Re: How to Exclude GPU

If your cc_config.xml is working correctly, there should be an entry in the messages just a few lines after the "max CPUs used: 7" line listed above. It should like the following since you have the start_delay enabled.

08-Jan-2011 12:58:06 [---] Suspending computation - initial delay

If you don't have a line like that then the cc_config.xml isn't being read. This can be due to a naming problem. You may have to make file extensions visible in Win7 to see exactly what the file is named. It could be that it is actually named cc_config.xml.txt which will not be recognized by the boinc client.

Re: How to Exclude GPU

Edit your cc_config.xml file. Add this,

<cc_config>
<options>
<use_all_gpus>0</use_all_gpus>
</options>
</cc_config>

This will use the first GPU only; PCIE slot 0.

Re: How to Exclude GPU (Solved)

I think I figured it out

The cc_config.xml was originally installed in
C:\Program Files (x86)\BOINC

but the startup messages from Boinc said
C:\ProgramData\BOINC ( a hidden folder in Win7 x64 )

So , I copied the .xml to C:\ProgramData\BOINC

now I get
1/8/2011 4:27:51 PM OS: Microsoft Windows 7: x64 Edition, (06.01.7600.00)

It is working perfect now...
Thanks for the assist guys !
