Re: Team SEYCHELLES

With Rudi and Rob both away its time for another interesting and thrilling COCONUT factfile! nerd More difficult than a "Bump"

71 The Robber (or Coconut) Crab. Birgus Latro is not only the world's largest land invertebrate, it's also a thief that climbs palms at night and steals COCONUTS.

72 The COCONUT was first mentioned in 545 AD by the Egyptian monk Cosmos Indicopleustes. He visited western India and Ceylon. In his "Topographia Christiania", Cosmos describes the coconut as "the great nut of India."

73 The COCONUT palm was unquestionably spread by Austronesians through the Pacific, perhaps to the Pacific coast of Central America, and Eastward to India and East Africa. In Melanasian Islands charred coconut husks have been dated to 3000 BC.

74 The COCONUT palm is monotypic, meaning that within the genus Cocos only one species, nucifera is recognised. Consequently, every coconut palm in the world is taxonomically the same species, which probably makes it the most abundant single food tree in existance!

75 In South America COCONUTS can be found growing at 27 degrees south and in North America at 25 degrees north, in Florida and the Bahamas. The plantations furthest from the Equator are probably those in Florida.

Almost three quarters of our way through this interesting fact file. sad Get the "101 Interesting Facts on Cocononuts" now, by joining Team Seychelles.

Hi JC, Rob is away from his base doing some work, he will be away for a while but may post fron time to time. This is the main reason we changed the Team Captain as he knew he would not have the time to contribute.

Hi Tony.....
I am very busy at the moment. Just popped in to see what is going on as my agent stopped communicating..... seems as though IBM is experiencing a problem.

Keep well

Just lurking in Tony....Its going to be a pain..... 70 mile run to the hospital for the next few days. Meanwhile I guess I better get the Defib and a chainsaw ready...Looks like the servers must NOT be on IBM Big Iron.... for we all know Big Blue Iron "never" goes down. Must be Sun servers hosting this laughing
