To car drivers everywhere

I was 'filtering' the other day - riding a motorbike between lines of cars - with my jacket partly open - it was hot. Some *%^¬ flicked a cigarette butt out of his window, landed inside my jacket.
Ended up with me almost on fire, a serious burn on my chest - hospital visit required - and a ruined bike jacket.
PLEASE don't flick butts out of the window, if you don't like the smell in the car, DON'T SMOKE.
By the way I am a smoker but I use a little thing called an ashtray when driving.

Is this the new term bikers have for the illegal practice of undertaking in rows of queuing traffic? The same people then insist on having a whole lane to themselves when cruiing along the outside lane of a dual carriageway while faster cars are held up behind them.
Sorry mate, I do agree about fagends flicked out of cars being dangerous, but you can't have it all ways. Before you jump in with both feet in your mouth I rode fast bikes for a number of years before buying a car that will eat most of them alive on the open road!

I'll take you both on with my Ferrari! cool

As I understand it, filtering is a legitimate action, however there is a very fine line between filtering and lane splitting or undertaking. The latter is an offence which could see you in court and walking away with points, a ban or even a custodial sentence if it was considered to be dangerous enough. I understand that filtering safely is taught in basic training now? The key is that filtering is only legal in stationary or slow moving traffic provided that you have the safety of other road users and of course yourself in the forefront of your mind. It's key that filtering motorcyclists remain aware that most car drivers won't expect to see them where they are when they are filtering.

I personally cannot condone lane splitting/undertaking. If it wasn't for my comprehensive use of my wing mirrors then I may well have taken out a motorbike on my way back from work yesterday. I was doing 60 on an A-road where that was the limit and he undertook me on a corner between myself and the curb. That's suicidal in my book and I've never before seen anything so stupid from a motorbike user.

It's worth pointing out that I know and have known a number of safe and responsible motorbike owners and they are very safe and considerate riders. It's just unfortunate that it's the unsafe ones that grab your attention.

I don't ride a motorbike, and I also don't smoke or believe in throwing anything out of my car window. If everyone threw their rubbish out of their cars then this would be a much dirtier world!

Re: To car drivers everywhere

OK, two things here. 1) If you're doing something illegal don't complain if you get hurt! Something we're lacking in this world is taking responsibility for our actions.....2)I'm obviously in the wrong business, We systems admins don't get to drive the cool care like you all! Where do I send my resume - I need the car I just saw on the tube the other day that set the world record for the fastest production car 241 m.p.h. I just don't have the $560k to get it.
