shock Nothing to do

Installed the official client, never does anything, only shows "nothing to do".
This is the case on both of my android devices: Nexus7 (2013 edition, Android 4.4.2), Samsung GS2 (CyanogenMod 10.1.3, Android 4.2.2)

The project list shows Scheduler request pending, Project initialization, Communication scheduled in ... which has in the meantime counted down to 0 several times, no success.

Devices are connected to power and Wifi, I have configured everything so that all tasks get accepted.

I have no problem getting tasks on my desktop computers, but the Android client is disappointing and frustrating.

The devices do not show up in the "Device Manager" page, which seems odd too.

IMO you need first one finished workunit to get the devices visible.
If there is no work for androids with project FightAIDS, you can switch to other projects to bridge the gap until updated availability.
Choose those with short running times, reduce local workunits cache and you will get new WCG ones as soon as possible.
(I selected SIMAP, those workunits finish in 7-9 kseconds on slow running ARMs, once FightAIDS is back for Android with an error free application I will switch back to WCG.)

Re: Nothing to do

I think there is a problem with the WCG: it simply does not get any work allocated from there, although I have enabled *all* WCG sub-projects. Getting work from SIMAP works fine which underlines the suspicion that something is wrong with how the Android BOINC client works with WCG.

Re: Nothing to do

Have you checked the event log? WCG may need more space than SIMAP and there should be a message in the event log if this is the case.

Re: Nothing to do

I'm seeing these symptoms as well. My Nexus 10 tablet gets work units from WCG, but my DROID RAZR MAXX HD does not. My phone has a ARM-based Snapdragon S4 ("Krait") processor and 1GB of RAM, while the tablet has an ARM Cortex-A15 CPU and 2GB of RAM. (Trying to compare "doesn't get tasks" against "gets tasks".)

I checked the event log, and I'm not seeing anything in there to indicate that the phone couldn't accept work units for any particular reason. I cranked up the RAM setting to 100% of memory, which gives it 823.49 MB.

Anything else I should check?

Re: Nothing to do

jdashton,

So no messages about disk space?
I don't have BOINC Android now so I really don't know...

Re: Nothing to do

My event log shows disk space information after starting up the client:

6 22-02-2014 06:45 Processor: 4 ARM ARMv7 Processor rev 0 (v7l) @1890MHz
7 22-02-2014 06:45 Processor features: swp half thumb fastmult vfp edsp neon vfpv3 tls vfpv4
8 22-02-2014 06:45 OS: Android: 3.4.0-2082040
9 22-02-2014 06:45 Memory: 1.78 GB physical, 500.00 MB virtual
10 22-02-2014 06:45 Disk: 9.25 GB total, 4.42 GB free

A newly connected device uses the 'default' profile, so make sure that you selected FAAH (currently the only Android project on WCG) in default profile here: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewProfiles.do
Then select WCG in Android Boinc and click 'update' .

Re: Nothing to do

Correct, everything looks A-OK. I'm guessing that it's actually a disagreement between the current 7.3.0 client and WCG's servers. I'd love to know that someone on the inside of WCG is paying attention to this issue.

There is no problem with space: my device has >10GB disk space free and it has 2GB RAM. The event log does not show any error or anything about this.

The only message in the event log that looks interesting is " Computer ID not assigned yet; resource share 100"

No work assigned let alone done on any of my Android devices (have installed this on three different ones in the meantime, all of them did not get any work from WCG, but then worked fine with SIMAP).

So, I regret that all my mobile computing power is now going to SIMAP and nothing to WGC, but there seems to be nothing that a user can do: something is flawed with the software or protocol here.

How do WCG developers become aware of issues like this? Is there an issue tracker?
