It is that time of year again. Spring forward, fall back. I have just sprung forward an hour. I clicked on My Forum Profile - Edit My Information and changed my Time zone from Eastern Time (GMT - 5) to AStlantic Time (GMT - 4) and then clicked on Save. Now I have to update my microwave, etc.

I've got on of those smart clocks that change automatically to DST. BUT I live in Arizona (MST always) and got up at 4 AM instead of 5 . To fix the problem I have to change to California (PDT) time. In the Fall I'll be an hour late.

lawrencehardin - on first reading of your post my immediate reaction was: Huh?!.
Later, I began to have one of those classic Leo Carillo style "moments of dawning". I perceived that you were making a wry comment on the stupidity of the daylight saving time stich. The tip off, for me, was the thing about editing your forum profile for the time change. < this guy is pulling our leg- what does that have to do with anything?> If it were possible to quantify the cost of the bad, perhaps even fatal decisions we make during the time we are staggering thru the time change fog, I think we would be aghast. Supposedly it saves up to 200 kids a year waiting for the school bus.

Yoro, yes, very good. It is problematic to say if any translation is absolutely "correct" or not. Another possibility would be "Gods time is the best time of all", which preserves the singularity of the original. I say this because the cantata was probably composed to be used in a funeral service, and would thus be attempting to help resolve the inevitable question in the minds of the bereaved "why was he or she taken from us now?"
I was playing, perhaps inappropriately, with the common notion that standard time is "God's" time. |

----------------------------------------The translation was not mine. I use the Firefox add-on "Quick Translator 1.0" for any text I do not understand. "God's time is the best of all times." translates back to "Gottes Zeit ist die beste aller Zeiten." Not quite the same as it started out. and "Gods time is the best time of all." becomes "Gods Zeit ist die beste Zeit von allen." How did that one work out? Any way, putting all the translations aside, Thanks for playing with "God's" time as it relates to our planet. Rory |

Certainly found out late that this was upon us again... cappuccino at 11:15 is just not done here [having been met with a frowned look today]
 (For all I care DST is made permanent... love the extra daylight hour in the evening and those tired from a hard days night, working like a dog, would so too... adds to traffic safety, so is said). |
