Page Size on -Tools - BOINC Preferences.

AMD FX6300. Linux Debian 8.0.0
Trying to get above new PC to run WCG, but at start get message - Vina needs 100.00mb more disk space. You currently have 0.00mb available and it needs 100.00mb.

Went to - TOOLS - BOINC PREFERENCES - but only part of page is visible on screen. From
Headings down to - On multiprocessor systems... same on other pages in Preferences.
result is that cannot -OK- any resetting.
Clicked -Clear- and tried to get into Local Settings but nothing happens when selected.
Changed monitor resolution but even at max the Boinc Prefences page only shows half a page.
Haave tried removing BOINC and reinstalling 3 time always with same result.
All other pages seem correct size for screen. Tried to manually change page size with mouse but does not work. As this is a new Pc Local Setting should be blank
Any ideason change to screen page size of Boinc preferences??

[Fx6300 is shut down until i can get correct settings and OK them]

Re: Page Size on -Tools - BOINC Preferences.

Sound like your display is configged to less than what BOINC needs to display proper.

If you have cleared the local prefs go to Website Settings > Device Manager > Device Profile > Default > Custom where you can modify the settings on the website. Upon doing an -update- in the BOINC Manager Project view, the settings transfer from server to client.

As for the message, please post the full event log. (Copy/Paste). Version 7 clients is enough to open the BOINC Manager GUI and hit Ctrl+Shift+E to open the log window. Hit the Copy All button and paste in reply. That will educate us what's not right with your setup.

Re: Page Size on -Tools - BOINC Preferences.

All settings on the 4 local preferences are collected in a single device profile page on the website... website prefs are preferred over local prefs as they control multiple devices on the same profile simultaneously, plus you can make changes from anywhere on the planet.

Copy / Paste is easy peesy. The said Copy All button in the Manager event view to get them to the clipboard, then open a new reply and hit Ctrl+V to paste the log.

Re: Page Size on -Tools - BOINC Preferences.

Partial success!!
Managed after several deletes of BOINC and WCG plus reinstalls.

The page in BOINC Preferences is now the right size and can see the OK button. Now got the problem that even though I set parameters to exactly the same as this PC nothing is d/loading and can see that in BOINC Manager Event Log message is that- max disk usage: 0.00GB- even though in Preferences it is 10GB

Re: Page Size on -Tools - BOINC Preferences.

Without the event log we're not going to make much progress.

Re: Page Size on -Tools - BOINC Preferences.

Tried to copy/paste but nothing came up in Tomboy. Cannot find -Clipboard- in Symantic library. Is there any point in opening both PCs and typing lines you require to this forum?

Understand you must be frustrated but the FX6300 is brand new, only arrived this pm . Very different to the old FX6100 I had before [now very dead]

Thanks for yr help so far,but thinking of finding a non BOINC project.

Re: Page Size on -Tools - BOINC Preferences.

Can't understand why Copy All button in event view and Ctrl+V (paste) in your web browser would not work on your Debian as they are practically universal keys. They work for me on any Windows, they work on my Ubuntu.

Anyway, here's a sample into which you can edit your values off the display:

The BOINC data dir also contains a file called stdoudae.txt which contains a copy of the event log history. Maybe you can upload it to dropbox or similar, post the link and we can view the file instead.

ALSO, open the global_prefs_override.xml file in a text editor, copy and paste it into a reply. That will tell us the prevailing settings. IF, though the clear button was successfully operated, the file should not exist in the BOINC data directory. The copy / paste the content of Global_prefs.xml or upload it too to dropbox / similar service.
