biggrin How Can I Install A Signature Banner?

(Dang, here is that Verbose Guy again--and armed with another silly question!)

I asked this question in the Suggestions forum but I guess it is the wrong nature to pose there as no one has responded.

How can I introduce/install/upload/link to a Signature Banner (avatar?) for use at the bottom of my posts--and others in the Team that already exists so everyone can promote us?

I have the thingie stored at ImageShack and I have tried all five pathlinks they provided me. Their service has worked for me at other sites but not here.

What I tried to do was enter the pathlink copy in the signature window that opens when I change my "text" sigature--both with an extra blank character (to activate), and without. None of these attemps succeeded.

Instructions, please.

Re: How Can I Install A Signature Banner?

Stuff in your signature works just the same as in a normal post. So, create your signature in a normal post first (you can delete the post afterwards).

Click on "Image" to insert your image.

Copy the code into your signature.

Hi, somebody else who is independent of Independence Day. Thank you very much for the unusually prompt reply, given the facts that this is a USA holiday and a message forum. You guys stay on top of it, don't you!

Many many thanks for the instructions. You do good work! Hope they pay you well for it.

(Quickie comment--McAfee and MCG fell in love sometime yesterday and there is no more access-denial problems. Sounds risque, doesn't it?)

Community Advisors are all volunteers. WCG employees have the title "World Community Grid Tech/Admin". There are enough of us that we can keep on top of things quite well, I think ^_^

Re: How Can I Install A Signature Banner?

I figured that was the case. Was just kidding just now.

Am trying to get the pathlink into that window that opens when I click on image. Is that the right way?

Otherwise, please try to give me step by step instructions. I AM a moron, you know.

And--yeah, here's another question. Will other team members have to go through this? (I saw some guy's post that his team has only to click on his banner to get it into theirs.)

When you're done, it should look like this:

You can copy that straight into your signature, and it will give you this:

biggrin Re: How Can I Install A Signature Banner?

Yeah, I'm mangling alright, alright.

I got the hang of the double posting and got rid of one. I have discovered the "enhanced mode" and that seems to be more proper an approach although I've not get got the full swing of it as I'm still getting that red-x deal.

I have wondered if I have a security software blocking that even though I see the other banner-sigs (whatever the proper name is for them).

I really think you guys ought to post a "how-to" on this. Others undoubtedly are facing the same grim reality as I am. And that is that many of us are drooling morons in this stuff.

I will continue trying. The agony is that ImageShack provides five pathlinks to cover all kinds of situations--operating with the assumption that ONE is bound to work, and I've not yet found that one AND a procedure here that works.

I'll use the old one to continue my experimentation.

Re: How Can I Install A Signature Banner?

OK--I just realized that you have written out the signature coding for me. WOW!! I figured out you did that on my own!

Now, I am trying to get it to work. I'll start anew with this message.

Jim Liddell

BINGO!!! WHAT WAS HAPPENING IS THAT MY COPY/PASTE INTO THE SIGNATURE WINDOW AT PROFILE CHANGE WAS MISSING THE LAST "]".
---DANG!!! THE MOST BASIC THING I TAUGHT OTHERS ABOUT BACK IN 1986 WHEN THIS STUFF FIRST REALLY GOT GOING. AND THAT IS THAT THE COMPUTER IS EVEN MORE OF A MORON THAN ITS OPERATOR AND IT CANNOT DO WHAT YOU TELL IT TO DO IF YOUR INSTRUCTIONS ARE MORONIC AND WITH ERROR!!! 1000 LASHES--TO THE POST, JIM AND PULL DOWN YOUR SHIRT!

Now I will go to that other fellows' nice set of instructions (sorry I missed that the first time) because I think I know how to combine THIS with that and obtain the automatic banner assignment to a new member of the team.

And I see right now that I very badly need to reduce the size of the ATO banner by about 40 percent, perhaps more. No big issue. I kept stage-and-stage copies of the file while putting it together. Hey--art and text softwares are my thing, but not this stuff.

Oogles of thankies, guys!
