shock Interesting problem

A few posts back, I was noticing that the HCC Project seemed stuck on slow. Read this and you will see why:

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...hread=17244&offset=20

The problem is we run many kinds of machines in our team. Some of us run machines may be spinning our wheels and wondering why so few points. If you are incountering this, please move to the DDDT Project. As you may have noticed, my currect insanity revolved around Linux and the HCC Project. So, if you are running Linux, then please do so as well. I have 5 machines on the bench, bringing them up to run HCC and really only 1 now can be used, maybe not to its fullest.

Realize, I'm the last person who would want to move a machine away from this project. But for the sake of all involved, I must look past my personal feeling in this matter and look to the needs of the ship.

biggrin Re: Interesting problem

OK, I'm wondering how things are going in regards to HCC work units. What we need to find out is what kind of machines crunch this work unit effectively.

I believe that cargod is running ok, but a few of us may be slowing way down running HCC. This is OK if you understand this is happening and consent, but if you are not sure and have seen a dip in your points stats since the project began, then please feel free to steer clear until the HCC project has broken in a bit more. The 2 categories of systems that I have seen most at risk: the slower than 1ghz and multicore machines. This doesn’t mean you are at risk of you machine, just that the crunching may seem slower or running inefficiently.

This note is not a directive, but an advisory. Many of us can stand the rough waters that DC is known for. For the new member though, a wrong wave can find them overboard. So, like any good ships captain, I’m just alerting you to a stormy sea.

I was working on a xmas email, but then noticed that there may be a problem and will be including this post in the email as well. So please, let me know how you are crunching! biggrin

The majority of the machines I have are P4 1.8Ghz/512MB.
I haven't seen any major changes in my daily stats. But my climb up the ladder seems to have slowed a bit.
I attribute that to being in the top 500 in all catagories more than the HCC crunching slower. It's always steepest nearest the top.

I'm not saying don’t crunch HCC. We are by charter Cancer Crunchers! The reason why we are here is where the next cancer project was to be back some 6 months ago. Now it's here and I'm overjoyed.

The problem is not that HCC will effect our team stats. The stats are a telltale to the actual issue. Its in the gap that you must trust when it comes to these projects and your time. The trust we build comes from contact here, major grid partners and recognition of the scientific community that uses the work we process. In this, we rest assured that what is represented is actual. Because we accept this blindly though, it is important that I watchdog these connections to prevent being mislead, no matter how it should occur. For it is this trust, not score, that is important above all else. Lost work can be recovered. Lost crew, well that is another a story. Lost trust is lost forever, as any new trust gained will always be shadowed.

Let me get back to you on this. I have a small stack of info to look through to see what is up. It may be that this is all for not or a complete non-problem. Work may already be in the works rectify the problems detected. In the end though there is one thing for sure, I’m on it.

Huh?
Ehm.. I guess I did.
Now, Latvians are nation of "peaceful peasants", so our national flag is in colour of stained blood while our national colour is light grey… as a steel blade! biggrin
