Re: Slashdot Users are slowing down...

I see all these ppl crying over WU's that take ages to complete... Please, my sweets, don't cry no more.... smile

With any WU completed you will be rewarded a number of points that is based on the product of that machine's performance, AND the time it spent on the WU. So whether you need a week to complete one WU or to handle 100, it doesn't matter, that weeks worth of processing still pays the same amount of points!

At least, that's what I read! (But don't ask me where I saw it. Some admins/techs should be able to confirm this.)

EDIT: Currently my machine is processing a WU for which it worked 58 mins, 40 secs to complete only 1.8%... that would mean 60 hours of work for the whole unit. I'm not worried, because that task will pay somewhere around 1500 points when finished. That's 25 point per hour on average, like all other tasks.

FreeBee,

You are correct. As long as you are crunching, you get points for the time - doesn't matter how many WU's you do. They all have to get done sometime!

Re: Slashdot Users are slowing down...

Just putting the topic about the #1 team (by far) back on top.
./ should make another news about WCG, it would increase the number of users again.
A Linux client (well, maybe actually several ones, as the variety of Linux distros, with some rising and others falling, is still a bit of a mess) is undoubtedly the next big step.

Re: Slashdot Users are slowing down...

Good idea. I read Slashdot everyday but I have posted twice in a year or so...
IIRC, they allow HTML signatures, don't they ?

Ug.. Haven't checked in for a while.. I see we've been de-throned.
Oh well. Still doing well at #2. Need to get on the front page again or something.

A bump for slash-dot.

I'm exhausted. Can't type much.

Shameless Bump...

Slashdotters are slacking off, have been for quite some time really.
I alone account for almost 7% of the Team's daily points (my average is from 2+ years remember).

Talk to the system admin's where you work, maybe they'll join in. I know my score is due to all the machines at my work. Try neighbors or relatives. We have to keep adding boxes, keep trying.

I noticed the BOINC client seems to work more efficiently than the UD one. I've switched all my machines, and I've seen a hike in points due to it. How's everyone else doing?
