Since I didn't really understand Sekerobs post Ill do what I was first advised to do. K-J The problem you have is loosing progress upon restart. The Checkpoint recording would evidence if the job actually ever reaches a checkpoint. Seeing you run 5.8.15, there is another way to record checkpoints in the message log activating other debug codes in the cc_config.xml, but it involves getting more messages. It's described here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=11332 Your results look like none of them are getting any significant run time. At that, they seem to bomb at exactly the same time in sets of 2 jobs simultaneous (dual core CPU computer), which suggest a shutdown or security permission issue. You'd have to investigate the other points discussed in the Vista FAQ like e.g. the Windows Defender Exceptions. Does a red shield appear in the Vista start bar system tray, right hand bottom? If so, click on it to see for any alerts and advise

Yep, now there is virtually no doubt: Point 5, the too fast closing of the computer which is Vista's fault. When you think you see it starting from scratch in fact you will on closer inspection see that its a new job!
----------------------------------------As explained there, if you close BOINC first manually, wait 60 seconds and then use the Vista menu to close the computer, things are likely to be okay. Added: Point 5 extract from the FAQ: After shutting down Vista and restart, the work unit in progress errors out. The reason is, that the Operating System (OS) is not allowing enough time for the WCG(UD) or BOINC agent to close the program properly and store the progress files on disk. A solution is found in the BOINC FAQ: exit code -1073741510 (0xc000013a) http://boincfaq.mundayweb.com/index.php?language=1&view=175 . Increasing the Registry Value up to 60 seconds will resolve the problem. Though exiting the client followed by the shutting down of the OS is an alternate way, it is important to leave enough time before proceeding to close/restart Vista. If at boot time one observes a new download of several hundred thousand bytes or more in the main screen of the WCG(UD) agent, the cause is most likely equal and the same fix would apply as for BOINC.

Ok changed the value to 60 sec now. Missed that when I did it the last time. I used the value on the boinc faq page (20).

I start from scratch when I boot up. Both projects had reached about 30% last night when I switched it off. There's absolutely no point in the delay factor of 60 seconds if you do not use the operating system's shutdown procedure.
