It does not seem that the "real" question is whether the comments are offensive or political. We can debate forever about the content of the comments themselves. The real issue is whether they are necessary, relevant, and contribute to the search for a cure. It is clear that they are unnecessary, irrelevant and out of context, and are hurting the search for a cure because some are having to turn it off. To me, the resolution is obvious - the comments should be removed. Losing crunchers over something so stupid is, well, stupid. Well i say if someone is going to leave over something this stupid it shows they are on the same mental level as those children--so they are the ones that are stupid and dont really care about this program---let them leave!! marysdurby: There's no need to start name calling. If you read the complaints, most have problems with running on their employer's computers, who have graciously and often tentatively, given their approval. As an employer and business owner myself, I understand their concerns. It's not about being childish or stupid. These people have no choice but to follow the guidelines set forth by their employers. ![]() |

I also didn't like what I was reading so I pulled the plug on that project midstream. I aborted and deselected that project.

I never would have known about the screen saver if it were not for this thread and i still think its st--silly if anyone has sense enough to read the information on the first page and download the grid agent they should be able to shut the screen saver OFF. So you should be able to see why i think these people are silly.I did not mean to call anyone names but it looks as if people just look for things to complain about that are silly. As a FORMER employer with 58 employees i would NOT let them run the screen saver. The cpu cycles could be used more productively I do not run the screen savers on any of my machines. I beg your forgiveness for being politically incorrect and so inconsiderate. So cant we all just crunch together

I also find these graphics unacceptable and have deselected the project.

I agree with marysduby, why can't you just turn off the graphics if you don't like them?

I agree with marysduby, why can't you just turn off the graphics if you don't like them? You can. It's all or nothing, though. Text PLUS maps PLUS docking PLUS percentage ... or ... nothing. I stay with the boinc advanced view by itself most of the time anyway. Adding the graphics takes a few % away from the crunching. I just check it now and then for curiosity. You only get the graphics display if you ask for it yourself.Did I take the flavor of your sentence backwards? Biological projects are always going to generate more concerns than mathematical projects. Some of those don't even HAVE graphics.

I agree with marysduby, why can't you just turn off the graphics if you don't like them? I’m sure not every student that submitted his or her poster/writing was picked. Someone had to selectively hand pick (and I mean cherry picked) which ones would be included in the screen saver. The ones picked are most definitely “left” of field politically. Not to run this project is a matter of principal. Even if I run boinc as a service with no screen saver, I don't feel the need to participate in such a politically charged and quite frankly derisive project. Personally I find it repugnant that they would try to push their gun control (or any other non-related) views on a project that has absolutely nothing to do with the project itself. |

i'm happily crunching away at this project, and i agree with the student messages.
----------------------------------------but unfortunately i don't want to see them here ![]() science note: regarding 'hate' as related to crunching, i have seen a few studies indicating that human violence and aggression are partly genetic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warrior_gene now if we were crunching that, i might see a connection. but until then... ummm...
