I am curious to know if anyone who is working on this project has had Dengue. I had it when I lived in Nigeria almost ten years ago. I know exactly why the nickname is "break-bone fever." It took almost four months to get over and for the first three months I was exhausted most of the day. A friend of mine almost died from the hemorrhagic strain. She was fortunate to be at the Alscon (aluminum plant) when it hit her or she would have died. Had she been out in the village where she usually lived, help would not have been available. I appreciate everyone who is allowing their computers to work on this, not for my benefit, but for the poor who do live in those villages where there is no help available.

I live in canada but I have a son in Cuba, where there are many cases of denge fever every year. If my powerfull computer can help to find a cure, why not...

I had Dengue Fever this summer. I was in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil visiting family for the first time in 15 years. My third week there I came down with Dengue fever. I couldn't eat or drink for a week, the pain in your bones is constant and instense. It was absolute misery. I'm glad I had a milder case, and that I'm a young, healthy adult.
To come down with dengue in a world-class cosmopolitan city like Rio only makes me wary of the higher risk posed in wetter, more rural tropical areas. Thank you to everyone who is helping out. Currently there is not much that can be done to help people who come down with this, and 30% people who can't get to any help die. |
