Lunchtime update and yes, OC reporting: Plus 357 days from us..... It is beginning to look possible

This is indeed staring to look really plausible - thanks everyone for your support and good luck to all the teams aiming for the next round of the challenge!

Sorry to hear about the loss for Denmark of its star. It is Always a tragedy. We are not helpless though, and those of us till alive have the chance to make a real impact and difference right here - and that realization makes me look for new ways to contribute everytime so that soon enough breakthroughs can be made that will give new treatment options to those who whould otherwise have none today.

I did grab some spinach in the form of firing up an additional 4 old Android phone that had bad batteries. It did give a boost to The International Team, but not enough. I bury my face in my hands when I think that if I had done that 1 day sooner, the 24 cores would have been just enough to push The International Team into the top 20 and qualify for round 2 of the Thor Challenge. They missed by only 16 cpu days.

Little mermaid had previously arranged for the base camp to be at SeriousCrunchers starting October 1. I have flown Escher 1 back from Chile, having completed my mission of delivering needed aid to captain flodisar and The International Team, to the new encampment. Puppy and I stopped along the way to Sweden for some supplies in Florida where we picked up several crates of oranges, tangerines and grapefruit.




The next round of the Thor Challenge doesn't start until next Monday, October 8, at 00:00 UCT. There is time for well deserved R&R until then. Although both SNURK and Friends and SeriousCrunchers have qualified for round 2 of the challenge, SNURK and Friends is in a much stronger position than SeriousCrunchers:
Round 2 of the challenge will narrow the field to the top 10 teams. (pointing to chart taped to side of aeroplane) SeriousCrunchers will definitely need additional support from the base campers in order to move up to position 10. Although little mermaid had planned to move the base camp to Sweden with captain flodisar and The International Team during the last week of October, I hope that captain flodisar will be understanding if the basecampers are still rendering assistance to SNURK and Friends and/or SeriousCrunchers during round 3 of the challenge (October 22 to October 28), assuming that one or both qualify for round 3. Round 3 will be very tough as it would take 3 times the combined resources of all 3 teams to beat the current position 3 team (75 years). There will be another week of rest before round 4 commences. Understandably, this field marshal cannot announce any plans that far in advance. Perhaps there should be a badge for the Thor Challenge trek as well. OldChap certainly deserves one.
