It's the strangest thing....
On some other forum, there was an interesting debate about nuclear power, and specifically the poor public image of nuclear power. Two completely different people (not me) independently chose the word "sheep" to describe those who blindly subscribe to the media paranoia about nuclear power, without taking the time to assess the real risks themselves. Okay: a quick poll - without looking it up, can you say how many people died in the Three Mile Island incident, and how many people died at Chernobyl? For comparison, can you guess how many people die each year mining coal? |

The problem is not that number now, its the number over time. Chernobyl will be the cause of many deaths related to minimal exposure of the fall out. As far south as Germany and north to Finland. If I remember correctly, 70,000 over 25 years.
----------------------------------------The answer to this thread is not in justification, but awareness. Anyone here that thinks we should try nuclear power, realize that you dont "try" anything like this. You have to be able to do it all the way, or not at all. See, I live where we "tried" it, now it's trying us. Now if you don’t want to read my posts, there is nothing that I can do for you. What you find, in the end, is that the nuclear option, isn't an option. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

For comparison, can you guess how many people die each year mining coal? In China, it must be 1000-10000/year. In addition, their coal mine fires contribute 1% of their carbon emissions.close enough... Deaths from accidents at Chinese coal mines dropped one fifth in 2007 compared with the previous year, though 3,786 people still lost their lives, state media said on Saturday. That was also a big improvement on 2005, when the death toll was nearer 6,000, the official Xinhua news agency said. It gets weirder. Coal, smoke from combusion and fly ash from coal plants have residual radioactivity of their own. Concrete block made from fly ash can be a source of radon gas. http://pubs.usgs.gov/fs/1997/fs163-97/FS-163-97.html

If I remember correctly, 70,000 over 25 years. We suspect that many of our military are also dying delayed deaths due to fallout from bomb tests. It was also a tourist thing in Las Vegas to go out and watch.Deaths in Hiroshima and Nagasaki are unfortunate, but the deaths from a conventional land war invasion would have been a lot worse.

Let me ask this, is there a structure on earth that could stand for as long enough to store any nuclear materials for its half-life?
----------------------------------------None! Nor can we. The reasons why I know this is for a reason I cant admit to. What I can say is that proliferation of nuclear materials equals proliferation of nuclear weapons. Now for D, as he may have missed my explanation of the jet pilots conversation: That cask is child’s play. Governments that have a hair up their behind, can act like children. We have one in office right now. But that is the problem, as it would be over aged children that would call in this strike: Like Bush. F117, F117, this is control Tiger Alpha. A jet pilot being contacted in flight. The control code "Tiger Alpha" idents the communication as authentic. F117, Roger. The pilots responds to the authentication. F117, F117, mission target in sight? The mission controller asking if he sees the cask. F117, Affirmative. Target package 3rd car back. Commence attack vector? He says yes and that he has acquired the target for laser guidance. Then asks for attack orders. The "vector" is the approach angle and attitude prescribed for that sortie. F117, F117, Negative. Stand on station until package enters high penetration zone for ingress. The controller says no. Then tells the pilot to "hang around a bit" to wait for the train to get up wind of a city. F117, Aye Aye. Standing on station. Awaiting target package to go metro. 3 for 1 sale? The pilot accepts the communication as a direct command. Then confirms the order. F117, F117, Confirmed! F117, transmission concluded. The controller confirms and clears the channel. The F-117 can carry two laser-guided bombs so accurate, that they can go through not just the window of your choice, but which pane. The first would crack that cask in two. The second would be an incendiary. Well, to insure maximum possible tactical yield. Why? Because its his job, not that he would want to personally cause such horror. The "3 for 1 sale" remark, that may be taken as zeal, is actually identifying the 3 tactical levels of assault. It is to reconfirm that the pilot and controller are absolutely sure before proceeding, as they both need to be sure for themselves before releasing such destruction. The reason why I said it this way, using the military communication style, is to drive home a point, not to tic you off. The part that isn’t obvious is the lack of the direct use of the word “cask”. This is to protect the communication, so if you don’t know what’s up you wont understand. Giving the pilot better chances, preventing discovery while loitering. 7cures: This is a sky king advisory to all aircraft aloft. Do not acknowledge. The problem is not that number now, its the number over time. Chernobyl will be the cause of many deaths related to minimal exposure of the fall out. As far south as Germany and north to Finland. If I remember correctly, 70,000 over 25 years. Not even close. Try 4000. The original death toll was 56. Sgt.Joe's estimates were remarkably close. I think China averages about 5000 deaths per year from coal mining accidents. See, courine: if you use the real numbers, instead of the numbers you assumed - you get a completely different picture. We have tried nuclear power. So far, it's working out fine. |

You read want you want to read. You hear what you want to hear. Did you even read my post, no. 70,000 is not just the death rate. It's also includes the slow malingering illnesses as well. You know, the ones that leave you praying for death.
----------------------------------------The part you don’t get, is you cant have war and nuclear materials in the same world. This is not my idea, it has been known for years. Top minds on the planet have been trying to figure out how to get out of the mess ever since. A mess that you want to promote. WHY? Because you are so behind in the thinking needed to know quite how far off you are. Having this conversation in this forum is from a political agenda only. One built on hype that would prey on the ignorant only. As your future in this is my distant past. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The result of just one Nuclear Accident

Oh Dave,
----------------------------------------Do you know how raindrops form? And D, 70,000/25=2800. But remember, that is per year, not just last year. It was the predicted total casulaties shortly after the disaster. Do you want to know how to unsmelt nuclear materials? ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by courine at Feb 4, 2008 9:17:15 AM] |
