Re: re:Climate-Sorry for all your Ignorance, politics & Hype

you are not listening nor understanding, one cannot conduct a discussion with some one that only listens to half an argument

The options are
in broad terms

free for all ..... generate what ever as soon as possible

thoughtful generation ..... using whatever clean sources available

play with wind power that will leave us with shortfalls
every few days

or go for a planned Nuclear option

not today but soon

If you want to work in the dark & dig coal now available but man Hazardous or maybe the oil Gas option relling on some third world letting us have our supply

Oil is an rare resource not to be burnt usful for so many things other than destroying it for fuel

I am a little puzzeld asa to you objections David

Re: re:Climate-Sorry for all your Ignorance, politics & Hype

Sek just for you

with fuel duty and VAT that's 66.15p/Litre to the Government on Petrol.

Climate Change LOL

Sorry David the posting of Political Tax enhanced pictures of petrol pump s relevant to Uk poster s doesn't prove your point

I don't mind paying for the cost of extraction of the oil refining delivery to point of reception (the gas /petrol station )
Tax on top of that gets up my nose

just don't blur the issue

I pay 106p per litre for diesel northwest Lancashire
I think I am paying fuel tax and so on
about 66% of that in tax
you do the maths

What is your point
Politics or save the planet

One nuclear power station when built
will ensure SAFE energy 1200Mgw that's a lot of power
i/2 dozen of these scattered around uk would be sustainable

as base load

you think about off shore wind farms
build costs maintenance
don't know where you live David but I live bye the sea
and know the aggressive affects of salt and wind wave power on structures

await ypur rebuttle

Densnaps I don't intend to rehash all of the points I have already made over and over again in the Greenies thread

If you want to know my considered opinion take a look here

Re: re:Climate-Sorry for all your Ignorance, politics & Hype

Okay David

read through you prev posts that you directed me to

sorry
once again
but you don't seem to grasp the need that we have

real energy
available at the touch of a switch

leaving all that aside

I worked for 35 years in the nuclear power industry
as a joe plonk worker all around the country
I lived near to nuclear powerstations all those years I wouldn't have taken any risks with the health of family or fellow village people near me.

I also worked in conventional power stations

I know what care and later what directions were required for the nuclear PS operation neededing to complie with

when you come down from cloud nine

it might be a hard bullett to bite but truth be told there lies our salvation
we should have gone down the Nuclear road years ago
we might be far more advanced on new tech stuff
by now instead of this crisis managament of our future

Re: re:Climate-Sorry for all your Ignorance, politics & Hype

Ps

we at my powerstation picked up the Chernoble event long before the russkies admitted to it

the control and admin is top hole
If you knew what to read about 3 mile island and the chernoble event

as a rational thinking person apart from whatttttttttttt
the controls now hopefully would prevent the happening again

Thats too emotive thought
what we are looking for is the CLEAN way to make energy

35 years in the nuke trade

makes me think if only the rubbish ill in formed press

got the facts right

all you Green folks might under stand you might have the "facts slightly skewed"

Re: re:Climate-Sorry for all your Ignorance, politics & Hype

Densnaps you haven't had time to read the thousand post plus thread of ours take another look

Given that your station detected Chernobyl before the Russians admitted to it doesn't that say something about the size of the problem that it created?

How many people will contract Cancers as a direct consequence of Chernobyl?

Den, corrosion can be eliminated by thermal spraying on a shotblasted clean surface with Zinc. This is usually called 'metallisation' and will last for the life of the product. It is different from galvanizing but the principle is the same as the zinc feeds the steel with electrons and stops it from corroding. The zinc is painted over with several coats of paint too. We bolt large blocks of zinc onto pipelines and other stuff under the sea as well to feed them with electrons. This is called. 'Sacrificial corrosion' If done properly those things could stand in the sea long after they are useful.

I have worked providing stuff for the nuclear industry too in the past. If you saw any large blue pressure vessels filled with Nitrogen where you worked for flooding the reactor. Those babies are mine.

Trident ? Most of that was done here too and shipped to Barrow in Furness for assembly.

I would rather we used re-newables myself where appropriate and as little nuclear as possible, or even better none at all even though I have had some involvement with it in the past.

I have loads of pictures of our Engineering feats in oil, gas, nuclear etc etc if my old scanner will work.

Re: re:Climate-Sorry for all your Ignorance, politics & Hype

David, the problems at Chernobyl were staggering. We don't use reactors like that any more, and even if we did, they would never reach that dangerous state.

Re: re:Climate-Sorry for all your Ignorance, politics & Hype

Didactylos even if the Nuclear industry was now perfect, which it never will be as we are involved in the process, what do you suggest we do with the 35 tonnes of spent fuel that each reactor generates every year that will be a radiation hazard for countless generations to come - a heck of a lot longer than when Mankind packed in the hunter gathering.

What do you suppose we should say in the letter to the people of 100,000 AD

Sorry about the mess but this Al Gore chap convinced us we really needed to do this
